Write-in Could Win Delay's Spot, Poll Finds.
Houston Chronicle ^ | 10-29-2006 | Doug Miller

On Monday President Bush flies into Houston to campaign for a congressional candidate who — at one point — looked like a long shot.

But an exclusive poll indicates that Shelley Sekula-Gibbs may pull off a political upset and win her write-in campaign for Congress.

But if my fellow citizens don't want it that way, it's fine with me.

Sekula -Gibbs didn't "put it to the people".

She pushed it through city council.

She is a nanny-statist.

Who elected the city council?

Good point, but "smoke nazi" isn't something at-large Sekula-Gibbs advertised.

Hillary Rodham Sekula-Gibbs is a hyphenated republican (Not a conservative!) who voted to ban smoking in restaurants and bars in Houston EXCEPT for so-called "cigar bars" who get the mandate of paying for employee health care. She also voted to make Houston an illegal alien refuge.

Conservative Sugarland mayor David Wallace was railroaded out of being a write in candidate by the local Republican party.

She is a poor replacement for "The Hammer" Tom Delay.

Fair enough. I don't like characters like that who hide the ball either. But the electorate can correct that and it's their responsibility to.

I hear what you are saying - I'd rather people and/or legislatures decide public policy, and not courts. On the smoking issue, I'm fine either way - the people have the power to guide public policy either way.

I do think the folks on either side of the issue in legislatures, councils, etc be more forthright about it, though.

If President Bush is campaigning for her, she must be a rino. He only campaigns for people that will vote against him later.

Agree on all Indiana races. Plus, the polls close there early, and the MSM is going to rush to report a RAT sweep.

Wouldn't it be sweet if we hold the House by a small margin and it's the successful write-in for DeLay's old seat that helps carry the day?

Actually, the special election helps tremendously, because it shows people how to spell her name.

We do not acquire power by being in the minority. Speaker Pelosi will insist that corporate lobbyists pour money into the DCCC for the 2008 cycle -- simply to protect their business interests.

Moreover, your philosophy is exactly what the Republicans told themselves in 1954 when they lost the House; that they would gain it back in 1956. Well, we waited 40 years for our majority.

I do not subscribe to your philosophy.

Well, I don't live in that district and will be voting for Culberson (R). I have friends that live in Tom Delay's former district and they are spitting mad over the partys treatment of him and the smoke filled room that told the mayor to stay out of this race.

Apparently you live no where near TX CD-22 district, as Sekula-Gibbs' campaign and other Republican groups have gone all out to instruct everyone with a brain how to "vote twice for Shelley, once in the special election and again writing her in in the general election ballot." The obnoxious radio and TV ads alone painfully remind people to do the write in also.

The Hart E-Slate or E-Scan voting options require the write-in to be added beyond the straight party vote selection.

Don't bet on losing IN 9, and I wouldn't bet that the Dems hold IN 7.

I live in the TX-22 district, and I will try to enter the name of Shelley Sekula Gibbs until my fingers bleed rather than be represented in Congress by liberal Democrat Nick Lampson. :-)

Don't worry about it. I voted early last Wednesday. Dialing in the name "Shelley Sekula Gibbs" was no big deal. It took very little time.

Dems are going to pick up about 18 seats. There's a chance to hold, but not likely.

With all due respect, why do you post things like that?
"Dems will pick up 18 seats" Says who? I don't mean, to be nasty but I get so tired of people on here parroting the MSM. Based on what? Maybe I'm too overly optimistic, but I don't see it.
I'm curious what are you basing this 18 seat defeat on?
the Experts? The talking heads? The Polls? A crystal Ball?
