It has been my experience that deaf people are very militant about their deafness.

The deaf zealots have a strong animosity for those who are not deaf and can be openly hostile to parents who would seek cochlear implants for their deaf children. We had a similar ousting at our state school for the deaf.

The students sound kinda Bolshie and separatist to me. Why shouldn't they learn to use both sign and vocal speech if they can?

In other news, the school is now seeking out other candidates who are more deaf than Ms. Fernandes. The shortlist includes Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, and Keith Richards.
