Vicious MS-13 gang seen as growing threat
Dallas Morning News ^ | 10/28/06 | David McLemore

Authorities target group in Texas and across U.S.

PHARR, Texas – Shortly after midnight in late September, a Texas National Guard soldier with night-vision equipment spied four figures slipping through the brush and alerted Border Patrol agents.

The men were arrested, and one in particular stood out for the extensive tattoos across his face, body and arms. Wilmer Matamoros, 23, a Mara Salvatrucha gang leader, was imprisoned earlier this year in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. A fingerprint check showed Santos Chileno-Gomez, a 23-year-old Salvadoran, had been deported for an assault on a Long Island, N.Y., police officer. His lengthy criminal record – and the tattoos – labeled him as a member of Mara Salvatrucha 13, a vicious international street gang that federal authorities call one of the most violent in the U.S.

Mr. Chileno-Gomez is among 76 MS-13 members apprehended by the Border Patrol in the Rio Grande Valley during the just-ended fiscal year. That total was up from 62 the previous year, showing the gang's resilience to federal efforts aimed at rooting it out and its determination to travel almost at will through Texas to cliques operating throughout the U.S. And, some police agencies believe, there is evidence that MS-13 has taken sides in the bloody war among drug cartels that's playing out in Nuevo Laredo."................

"Officials estimate there are up to 10,000 hard-core members of the gang operating in 33 states, the largest clusters living in Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and the Mid-Atlantic region. But Texas is one of the fastest-growing states for MS-13, simply by virtue of geography."

"From Honduras and El Salvador, the quickest routes in the U.S. are the smuggling pipelines that run from Mexico directly into the Valley," said Border Patrol Supervisory Agent Roy Cervantes. "From here, they quickly move on to Dallas or Houston and blend in with the immigrant communities there. They want out of the border area as quickly as possible."

It is my hope that the Republican party realizes how concerned the average citizen is with both these vicious gangs and the open border that gives them an easy entry to our hometowns. A thousand plus miles from the Mexican border and NC is one of the high concentration states. So much for geography being a barrier, not with the border we have.

And, so much for the politicians who are entrusted with border security. It is tempting to blame all of this on the 8 years of Clinton, but it is the Republicans who are in power and have had the Congress for a very long time. It won't take much of an effort for the average voter to assign all of the blame to the Republicans. They've had the time and the power to do something and, after 9/11, more than enough reason to make border security a top priority.

Gangs at the level of MS13 play by a different and more ruthless set of rules and require a different and more ruthless approach by law enforcement. A death row express lane sounds like a good first step. They've earned it.

the largest clusters living in ... Washington, D.C.

Where the local governments (D.C., Maryland, and Virginia) invite illegals to come and live. They replace signs with new signs in both English and Spanish, and give tax payer funded benefits to illegals. Of course they will flood into the D.C. area. They blend in well. They don't have any need to speak English to thrive.

Drive an 90 minutes North to small town PA, or 90 minutes West to small town West Virginia, and they are easily identified - so they won't stay.

What's scary is rumors I've heard of them working with the jihadists.

A correction is needed here:

Border Patrol Supervisory Agent Roy Cervantes. "From here, they quickly move on to Dallas or Houston and blend in with the immigrant illegal alien communities there. They want out of the border area as quickly as possible."

They realize it, all right, but neither party has any intention to do something about it else they would have closed the border right after 9/11/01.

When our politicians say that a fence is not going to fix the problem, they are right.

They/we will also have to fix the issues of :

  1. "sanctuary cities",
  2. refusal to enforce existing laws,
  3. easily available employment,
  4. easily available welfare benefits,
  5. easily available healthcare,
  6. easily available education and
  7. easily available housing
  8. and ubiquity of spanish language sources in US.

Right now, there is virtually no good reason NOT to illegally immigrate to the US.

A fence could be an important part of the solution, but not if it allows politicians and activists to obscure the more compelling problems.

Nothing will happen in regards to the border. But you let an attack against a politician of either party in their gated community and watch how fast something gets done.

One thing is certain. You wont stop them by locking up Border Guards for shooting a smuggler.

Sorry, but we have been letting these people establish a hard core base for years. We are going to find ourselves fighting so many wars eventually we will be overcome as a nation if our government doesn't toughen the heck up and wipe this slime off the face of our soil, quickly, throughly and definitively.

Border Patrol Supervisory Agent Roy Cervantes. "From here, they quickly move on to Dallas or Houston and blend in with the immigrant illegal alien communities there. They want out of the border area as quickly as possible."

There are substantial numbers of *legal* immigrants, plus of course communities derived from the Tejanos that were in Texas well before Stephen Austin and others made their way to Texas.

Although the illegals don't generally fit in too well in those communities, either "ethnically" or culturally.

I realize that. That's why I changed the words from "immigrant communities" to "illegal alien communities."

my third time saying this..............
the best possession one can own is a world class reloader.
the best knowledge one can possess is how to work the reloader

Your second best defense ? Teaching like mined neighbors the same thing.

The third world template to take America is from within.
They know we got guns so ,so do they. Not as a nation or known uniformed cause, mind ya. No as individuals.

The Japanese are gonna think they got it good during WWII
when America MUST remove human's human trash.
