A woman in the southern city of Marseille suffered severe burns when vandals set fire to a bus she was traveling on, a police source said on Saturday.
The attack occurred as France marked the first anniversary of riots that scarred the country's poor suburbs, inhabited largely by immigrants.
Vandals have set at least six buses on fire in suburbs around Paris this week in an upsurge of violence ahead of the anniversary, but there have been no injuries.
The police source said an unknown number of people forced their way on to the bus in Marseille at about 9.00 p.m. (1900 GMT) and set fire to it before a 26-year-old woman could escape.
"The woman's life is in danger," the source said.
Three other people needed treatment for smoke inhalation.
After several attacks on security forces in French suburbs in recent weeks, police warned there was a danger that violence might again get out of control as last year.
I see the title says 'vandals' set the fire. Do they mean vandals or muslims?
OH OKAY ROFL
Gee, if I were a gambler France dropping the hammer, France surrendering let me think about this.
Good grief. Vandals burn six busses, severely injure a woman, mount attacks and ambushes on the police, burn maybe a hundred cars a night, and all the police can say in response is:
"police warned there was a danger that violence might again get out of control as last year."
Earth to the French gendarmerie: the Muslims are already out of control. Moreover, by failing to make a proper response you have become their enablers.
With any luck they might just be able to locate someone who knows how to use it.

There's a big misconception in the US about the nature of these 'disturbances' in France. I doubt that it has much to do with Islam as the children of most 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants from Africa are as a secular as the French. It's more a social and 'tribal' conflict.
She refused to show her face, and the court threw it out of court.
Muslims continue to probe and test the defenses and freedoms that Americans have traditionally practiced with responsibility.
Sharia law is the goal, make no mistake about it.
Yes, it does. But unfortunately, so does anyone who doesn't control their borders.
If we don't learn from their mistake, which is merely a further advanced form of our very own, we are indeed fools.
Only time will tell.
They set the bus on fire because the "woman" had dumped her boyfriend?
Honestly, the report sounds like it was a personal attack!
Would hate to be an auto insurance salesperson (or company) in France today.
Fantastic. Maybe there is hope for us after all.
It won't be long before even the French "get it"...Radical Islam is on the march...again...France, welcome to the seventh Century.
La Raza types not-so-quietly want large chunks of the United States annexed to Mexico.
Liberals continue to call these activities 'democratic'. The Balkanization of America continues.
Look, it's not a question of 'Radical Islam'. It seems the conservative US press is unwilling, for one reason or the other, to discuss the real nature of the conflict in France, which is ethnic in nature with blame on both sides. It seems discussion on ethnic conflict has become such a big taboo in America that nobody is willing to discuss these things in the right context. 'Islam' is now a politically correct horse to beat on.
How the heck does the press let these people off by just calling them vandals???? Vandels spraypaint walls and break windows. Arsonists and murderers set buses full of people on fire.
Just means that Sharia law will be delayed by a few years.
I hope they are drawing up plans for the American southwest and other sections of our country.
They may need to be exercised at some point.
As Sarkozy well said it, there is no "anniversary" to "remember". The Paris police should shoot on sight anyone lighting even a single Molotov.
