Michael Savage: Left-Winger

I've always known there was something wrong with Michael Savage's schtick. It's intolerable. He talks like an absolute madman. He is just about as intemperate as you can get and still be on the radio.

Now I know what was wrong. The whole thing is a put-on:

Supporting a candidate out of your own wallet may be the most accurate gauge of what a donor believes in his heart. So it should come as a shock to fans to learn where their hero distributes his own political gifts. Which are not ungenerous. Just ask Jerry Brown, the decidedly liberal candidate (pro-abortion, pro-gun control, etc.) for California attorney general.

As the San Francisco Chronicle reports, Savage is a top contributor to Brown's campaign against conservative state senator Chuck Poochigian. His gift of $5,600, the maximum allowable under state law, was merited, Savage told the Chronicle after being outed. Why? Because "You have to make choices in an imperfect world."

RIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGHHHTTTTT.

Not at all. I only listen to Rush or Glenn Beck occasionally. I just recognize the fact that Savage is a loon and a fraud

You don't listen to Savage, how he defines the issues, why he sides on the issues that he does, you never read any of his books, yet you recognize him as a fraud and a loon, based on?

I guess I'll take that as a concession that I win the argument, since you decided to respond with an irrelevancy.

Sure it makes sense. It's ok for Bush and the GOP to support a liberal democrat, but not ok for Savage to give to a liberal democrat.

Beyond ridiculous. You should be embarrassed to post something this silly.

Where to begin.

It helps to grow up in the NYC metro media environment circa 50's - 60's. This is the era of Sandy Becker, Jean Shepherd, Carlton Fredericks (sp?) Soupy Sales, Officer Joe Bolton, Long John Nebel, Barry Farber, Claude Kirschner, Joe Franklin, yada yada yada.

Howard Stern is a product of this. So is Michael Savage.

Not entirely, but importantly, talk radio came out of WOR,
where a lot of wacky late night talk, gossipy and paranoid nutritional day time radio talk originated, to the best of my knowledge. (I'm sure anyone can trace it back to shredded wheat and graham crackers and god knows what, but for our purposes, trust me)

The voice in the radio, whispering everything you know is wrong, most effectively, later at night, or more matter-of-factly in the day...this was pioneered then.

Notice how Mike has a doctorate in nutrition. I'll bet anything Calton Fredericks inspired him on that path.
Stories on the radio? Shepherd, Long John, Sandy Becker,
these guys brought stories and silliness to radio and children's TV unlike anywhere else, impromptu, or so it seemed, kidding with the technicians, it created this whole informal inclusive atmosphere that made listeners and viewers in on the joke, or, conversely, the vanguard against the international conspiracty to...poison your food, assassinate JFK, cover up UFOs, cancer cures like Laetril and Krebiozin, or speak out and speak up like Ayn Rand or Paul Krasner.

Forget conservative and liberal. It's all about New York, NY. It's sentimental, funny, and spoiling for a fight for a fight's sake. Baloney, but...I grew up on that baloney and, when Savage isn't salivating, he brings it all back, in a good way and that's...entertainment.

Jerry Brown is an Independent. My eyes rolled when you tried to tar him with the donk brush. You tied Brown to Hillary why? Just to fear monger?

I guess we have unfortunately come to the point where you have decided that lying is the way to go.

Very sad - I suggest you stop now before you make an even bigger fool of yourself.

And if agreeing with your point makes me a 'bot' - so be it...Just call me R2D2..."beep, ummmm, whirrrrl, beep"

Thanks, I appreciate your kind words! I think the "bot" word has been overused. I'd also like to see more incisiveness and precision in our intrafamily arguments. I have no truck for this "oh yeah, well, so's yer old man!" stuff.

For the record, I used to listen to Savage daily when he was local in SF. He's worn thin with me. I don't like the yelling on a daily basis. It gives me agita. Like bad red sauce. (See, I can play, too. :-) ) And I've long been bothered by his zealous hunger to get credit for things. Especially when it came from a Freeper first. It has the tinge of desperation and immaturity. I've heard too much of it and don't wish to listen to that any more, no matter what his message is.

Which is to say that he has a giant ego.

He's got his own ideological viewpoint, and if it's not to the listener's taste, he/she won't listen.

It's usually good fun, at the end of the day.

Or not.

Been there, done that, excelsior you fathead?

Just skimmed the NRO story on Savage, surprised but not to see he was a Ferlinghetti pal. I bought those new directions paperbacks too. What a dope. I was a Barry Goldwater republican in the ninth grade. All over the map. To me, that was the best of that NYC Jersey LI world, ya know? Going to the candy store? I'll walk ya.

don't forget to turn the clock back one millennium -where you belong.

That's hilarious coming from a radio fan.

Got 8-tracks, too?

Keep on listening to the smart feller, he'll educate you for sure.

Some folks need that, I suppose.

For the life of me I will never understand why there is so much hatred on FR for Savage

Come on, you've GOT to be kidding me. It's not the end of the world if he aims his arsenals towards Republicans 22 out of 24 months, but just before the election??? Saying there's no difference between Rep and Dems? Saying he won't vote? Mocking other CONSERVATIVE talk-show hosts? Mocking Tony "Snowjob" and calling him a liar? Juvenile taunts like "Sean Vanity", "Hush Bimbo", "Leprechaun". Calling Condi a dunce and an idiot. Calling for Rummy's firing and laughing at the juvenile phrase Ronald Dumsfeld?

If this were a war and we're being bombarded from all sides, and THEN we get pounded by friendly fire as well, I'd think they were treasonous. Savage is a DISGRACE in my opinion, and I'll keep speaking out against this SOB...

We have enough enemies and those on the left -the MSM, the Dems, colleges, gays/minorities/poor/entitlement seekers/etc, without this looney bin pounding the GOP...

If he had 1 million listeners, instead of 8.25, I wouldn't care nearly as much.

Do you want more reasons why I hate him? Saying Iraq was better off with Saddaam? Calling Iraq one of the worst blunders in history?

He's right on nearly every issue? Like raising min wage? Price controls on oil? Iraq- saying it was better off under Saddam? Calling Snow an outright liar? Blasting Rummy and Condi mercilessly? There are so many more. Do you agree with ALL of these points?

For you to put an equal weight on lib and conservative spin is just ignorance. The libs lie, the conservatives, like Rush, by and large put a postive, or conservative spin on things.... Not lies, but they tell the truth or put a spin, two totally different things (from the dems).

Of course you would think it's silly.
Is president Bush and the GOP supporting a liberal democrat?
You nothing wrong with that but you see something wrong with Savage giving a liberal democrat money.

Tell me the difference. What is the difference?

Most cohesive sentence EVER.

Your propaganda minister Limbaugh would NOT be proud.

"If he had 1 million listeners, instead of 8.25"

I would not be insulting 8.25 million listeners.

Had we secured the borders, cut spending, punished the Clintonista's like Sandy Burglar, we would not have to be worrying about how close these races are.

What does it say about the state of the GOP, when we are even in close races with propably the worst crop of democrats in the nations history.

I'm in full agreement, but Savage's disgusting rants against our side are not helpful

You blame Savage for bringing up issues that are important to a portion of the conservative base. But Savage does not set policy, he gives his opinion about policy.

Had the republicians rightly punished Sandy Burglar, had they cut spending, had they secured the borders, we would not even be having this debate.
If you are going to place blame, place it where policy is set.

The "14 gangsters" have done more harm to nominee's getting appointed
than the democrats. 7 of these gangsters are republicians.
There are still vaccancies left to be filled.
