RNC: [Mike] DeWine, you're on your own (RNC cancels ad reservations)
Cleveland Plain Dealer ^ | 10-26-06 | Stephen Koff

The Republican National Committee confirms it will not be on the air in the final week of Mike DeWine's campaign, canceling its ad reservations throughout Ohio.

Aaron McLear, RNC spokesman, says the party will continue its on-the-ground efforts and staff support for Ohio Republicans, and says he understands DeWine has about $2.8 million available for his own commercials.

But no more money for RNC ads as of Tuesday. The party canceled its air time reservations.

I think 2.8M is sufficient through Nov 7. Spend the RNC money strategically.

Ads can get ridiculously expensive during the final days of an election.

This is a smart move. Voters are sick and tired of political ads during the home stretch. Besides, if you haven't been able to get you message out in the month prior to the two weeks before the election, how are you going to be able to win?

"Yet 5 million for Kean the Lesser in New Jersey. "

They're reading the polls - DeWine down 8, Kean is even.

It's the right strategic call, because DeWine has more money than support, and Kean has more support than money.

What I dont like is the indications of giving up on *any* race ... so it comes down to *US*. ... our GOTV efforts and volunteer efforts in the last days.

Dumb move. DeWine may well be toast, but this can't be good for Chabot, Schmidt, Blasdel, Tiberi, Pryce, and Padgett downticket. Even if we lose DeWine's seat, we have to keep him up relatively strong in order to generate turnout.

I would have spent most of that money by now if I were in DeWine's shoes.

Yes, but if we pull out of Ohio, we could lose a heck of a lot of House seats with him. Even if he goes, we have to keep him competitive. A Dem sweep in Ohio would be disastrous.

DeWine shot himself in the foot with that "gang of 14" thing. Linzee Graham should take close note.

I hope that's the reason....but, DeWine the RINO is in deep doo-doo in his campaign against the socialist Sherrod Brown. And, due to the contesting/whining/crap of the 2004 election, many (D) voters are wanting straight (D) tickets to get even, and ACORN is out in force with absentee ballots....

Well, DeWine was a whiner, a man who abandoned the party a number of times in the last two years, and I wrote a number of times to him (I am an Ohioan) and he never changed his weak attitudes.

I've contributed to him directly. But not very much. And I'll have to hold my nose to vote for him. If only he had been clearly about something..anything...but he was weak and passive and, well, this is what happens when that does: a liberal, worse alternative.

DeWine was the first Republican to block Josh Bolton's confirmation.

I trust RNC to strategically place the money where it will do the most good. As much as I hate seeing *any* socialist/communist get elected, Rove & Co. don't win because they throw darts on the map. And this time, if we win, Dem's will have to examine whether there is a point to being a left wing Democrat at all.

DeWine was a double-clothes-pinned vote for me, but Sherrod Browne is right up in the Kucinich-class for socialist agenda.....

Heard him on the radio this afternoon and was quite impressed. The things he revealed about Brown were shocking. The citizens of Ohio need to know what Brown is really like.

I thought it was Voinovich who blocked Bolton's vote from getting to the senate.

Brown will be the most liberal member of the US Senate. He'll make Russ Feingold look like Tom Coburn. But this year he's succesfully spun himself as a populist, not a liberal. Grrrrr.

The Family Reserach Counsel has rated DeWine at 100% and Brown at 0%. The choice in this election is totally clear.
