Even the most "moderate" Democrat politicians in America today are ready to retreat from Iraq – essentially raise the white flag of surrender, sue for peace and demonstrate to the world, once again, that the U.S. is an unreliable ally in the cause of freedom.
Take your pick:
Jim Webb, the challenger to Sen. George Allen in Virginia, was a Marine who served as Ronald Reagan's Navy secretary. From his resume, he looks like a guy I could support to be in the U.S. Senate. But, just to become a Democratic Senate nominee in a large state these days means becoming an appeasement weasel.
Barack Obama, the senator from Illinois who is now talking up a presidential run in 2008, is said to be the "moderate" alternative to Hillary Clinton. But this moderate wants to set dates for withdrawing troops from what is still a hot insurgency war in Iraq.
And, speaking of Hillary, she says the key to ending the war in Iraq is firing Donald Rumsfeld and substituting James Baker, Brent Scowcroft or Colin Powell. Not one of these so-called leaders aspires to an American victory over our jihadist enemies. Think about that. The enemy is not Osama bin Laden or his al-Qaida proxies in Iraq. The enemy to these power-hungry egomaniacs is George W. Bush or Rumsfeld. They truly act as if these men are a greater menace to freedom and America's security than are our enemies.

This is why I think it's time for a new name for the Democrats. I think we should call them the Dhimmicrats.
Anyone who truly understands the threat all civilized people face from Islamic jihadism will immediately comprehend.
For 1,300 years, Islamic jihadists of one stripe or another have ruthlessly conquered peoples – throughout Arabia and the Middle East, through central Asia, through much of Europe and in the Far East. Those they didn't kill or convert were subjected into Dhimmitude status.
Under Islamic Shariah law, non-believers – Christians and Jews anyway – are permitted to live as long as they support Islam through their Dhimmi taxes and are willing to accept what amounts to a third- or fourth-class servile existence, always subject to pogroms, false accusations and ill treatment. Dhimmis always live in fear.
And that's why I think the name Dhimmicrats really fits. To them, appeasement is a synonym for peace. Talking can solve any problem, they believe. There is almost no objective or ideal for which sacrifice and fighting is worthwhile.
They also apparently believe – mistakenly, I assure you – that if we leave the jihadists alone, they will leave us alone. On the contrary, this assumption defies all historical realities. Jihadists are emboldened, empowered and encouraged by the retreat of its enemies. They have nothing but contempt for weakness – and they detect weakness in the American soul today.
As anyone who reads my columns knows, I have many arguments with the Bush administration and the way it has conducted the war in Iraq. I believe, for instance, that we've been far too soft on our enemies, allowing them to set the rules of engagement, not using all of the weapons in our arsenal, worrying too much about world opinion and not enough about the morale of our troops.
But, let me state this as plainly as I possibly can at this historic moment as we approach the 2006 midterms elections: Retreat before victory equals defeat.
We don't need a plan for withdrawal from Iraq; we need a plan for victory.
We need to vanquish the enemies who have gathered there for this showdown with U.S. forces. We can do it. We have the ability. We just lack the will and the direction. It's time to finish the job.
Finishing the job has been a problem for the U.S. in all of its recent wars, since World War II. And it has been a problem largely because of opposition from the Dhimmicrats and those who think like them.
There will be nothing but misery for us in a world dominated by the jihadists. As the grandson of Dhimmis who fled that life in the Middle East, I have no desire to see my children subjected to that life.
The only way to prevent it from coming, however, is victory – not through "honorable retreat," not through diplomacy, not through negotiations with homicidal maniacs, not through "listening to our allies."
I may not have a dog in this hunt Nov. 7. But I want to make it clear to everyone that votes for Dhimmicrats represent defeat, dishonor, disgrace and Dhimmitude.
