HOUSTON An illegal immigrant who survived the nation's deadliest human smuggling attempt says he was told a lie about how he would be transported.
Jose Juan Roldan Castro testified today in Houston during the trial of the driver that hauled him and other immigrants in a stifling tractor-trailer. Roldan says he was never told he'd be stuffed in the back of the vehicle. He was told he would be in the cabin of the trailer.
Roldan is the first survivor to testify in the retrial of Tyrone Williams. The 35-year-old Williams is a Jamaican citizen who lived in Schenectady, New York. He faces possible execution for his role in the deaths of 19 illegal immigrants in May 2003.
A jury convicted Williams last year on 38 transporting counts but he avoided a death sentence because the jury couldn't agree on his role in the crime. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected the decision, saying the verdict didn't count because the jury failed to specify his role.
Well, that's just outrageous. /sarc
Riiiiiiight. Because that would have made everything OK.
Minorities ripping off illegal minorities.
A Jamaican citizen who lives in Schenectady New York, drives down to the border to haul Mexicans over.
I hope they place Tyrone at the front of the death row line.
'He was told he would be in the cabin of the trailer.'
Bumped to coach, amigo? Call Ralph Nader!
I sincerely hope the taxpayers aren't spending a whole lot on this trial.
