Election officials say Tennessees tight U.S. Senate race and proposed constitutional amendments for elderly tax relief and banning samesex marriage have drawn voters to the polls in relatively high volume during the first few days of early voting.
Through Saturday, more than 159,000 people had cast early and absentee votes statewide, according to the Tennessee Division of Elections. State Election Coordinator Brook Thompson said Tuesday that early voting turnout is at a higher pace than 2002, the last comparable statewide election. However, it is hard to determine if there will be a greater total turnout for the Nov. 7 election or if more people simply are choosing to cast ballots early, he said.

I am not convinced of his genuineness.
A good trend.
If elderly tax relief and banning samesex marriage is drawing large segment of voters then this is BAD NEWS for the RATS.
I'll bet Ford Jr. really wishes this issue wasn't on the ballot.
Hmmm. Which candidate do you think the MSM would have more on the Sunday shows if they win...Ford Jr. or Corker? I just don't know. /s
I'm not sure what the "Elderly Tax Relief" amendment is about. But, elderly voters usually vote Democrat. They remember FDR and Truman and the Great Depression.
Hopefully, it won't be the case this time.
He seems to think there*s a backlash forming against the mean Republicans and attributes the heavy early voting to that.
Any proof for this?
The thing is that most analysts have thought that gay marriage won't have any effect this year, even though 8 states have it on the ballot!
Didn't they say the exact opposite during the last election?
It used to be true but recent elections show it's evening up. Don't know about TN's trends, however.
What?
That GOP voters make up a large portion of the early voters?
That has been stated by political pundits quite often.
I think it might be due to the fact that GOP voters are highly motivated to vote.
I wonder what percentage of absentee and provisional ballots are for Democrats? I would not be surprised to see the (D)'s on non-in-person ballots in the 60% plus range.
Funny because the MSM assured us that wouldn't be the case.
I wonder if the winner will be driving a Tracker?
But, elderly white Demo voters in Tenn. are very racist.
When we moved to Tenn. it shocked me that the only people that could get housecleaning jobs were blacks.
I lived in TN during the 2000 Election and worked in a Campaign Office in East TN. I made hundreds of calls. 90%of the people I spoke with were Republican. East TN is VERY Republican, from Knoxville East to the Border. Even huge portions of the Nashville area are Republican. Unless Ford thinks that many of those Republicans are going to crossover and vote for him, I don't see a win for him. He has two things going against him, he's a Democrat and he's Black! And...that Ad was probably very effective in Baptist Country even if the RNC took it off the Air. Most people already saw it in the couple days it ran! The South hasn't changed THAT much!
