It's bad form to mock one's disability. Poor choice on Rush's part.

Primary Symptoms
Bradykinesia is slowness in voluntary movement. It produces difficulty initiating movement as well as difficulty completing movement once it is in progress. The delayed transmission of signals from the brain to the skeletal muscles, due to diminished dopamine, produces bradykinesia.

Tremors in the hands, fingers, forearm, or foot tend to occur when the limb is at rest but not when performing tasks. Tremor may occur in the mouth and chin as well.

Rigidity, or stiff muscles, may produce muscle pain and an expressionless, mask-like face. Rigidity tends to increase during movement.

Poor balance is due to the impairment or loss of the reflexes that adjust posture in order to maintain balance. Falls are common in people with Parkinson's.

Parkinsonian gait is the distinctive unsteady walk associated with Parkinson's disease. There is a tendency to lean unnaturally backward or forward, and to develop a stooped, head-down, shoulders-drooped stance. Arm swing is diminished or absent and people with Parkinson's tend to take small shuffling steps (called festination). Someone with Parkinson's may have trouble starting to walk, appear to be falling forward as they walk, freeze in mid-stride, and have difficulty making a turn.

Secondary Symptoms
The progressive loss of voluntary and involuntary muscle control produces a number of secondary symptoms associated with Parkinson's. Most patients do not experience all of them, and symptoms vary in intensity from person to person. Some secondary symptoms of Parkinson's disease include the following:

* Constipation
* Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia)–saliva and food that collects in the mouth or back of the throat may cause choking, coughing, or drooling
* Excessive salivation (hypersalivation)
* Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)
* Loss of bladder and/or bowel control (incontinence)
* Loss of intellectual capacity (dementia)–late in the disease
* Psychosocial: anxiety, depression, isolation
* Scaling, dry skin on the face and scalp (seborrhea)
* Slow response to questions (bradyphrenia)
* Small, cramped handwriting (micrographia)
* Soft, whispery voice (hypophonia)

Welcome to the debate. Before you 'attack' or criticize, make certain your aim is well-placed. Rush Limbaugh did not mock the disability, he mocked the ad and its intent. HE also slammed it for it misleading nature and downright falsehoods. There is no doubt that Parkinson's disables its victims. There IS considerable doubt in literature and in lab/field trials that stem cells deliver long-term benefits to sufferers AND there IS the one (Parkinson's-related) study published where 100% of the lab rats treated with stem cells developed brain tumors. Also, there is the falsehood in the ad about who did and did not vote for stem cell research AND whether or not said research is legal.

The ad makes a mockery of the truth, and MJF (in his disabled state) was (apparently) a misled pawn in shameless political effort.

Rush did not "mock" anything. You obviously didn't listen to his last two programs or you would know what he said and how he said it. He was absolutely right to bring this to the attention of the public.

You miss the point: he is campaigning FOR Democrats not for Parkinson's research. To be fair, he has been duped by all the false promises about the potentiality of embryonic stem cell research. These things are as uncontrollable as a fusion reaction.

Maybe you should have listened to Rush. He in no way mocked his illness in anyway. Far, far from it. This article is a complete lie and I don't believe the author even listened to Rush either.

Rush did not mock Fox's disability. Rush merely pointed out that Fox either didn't take his medication or he was acting. Either way, Fox wanted his symptoms of Parkinsons to be clearly visible in this ad in order get emotional sympathy for political gain. Fox even wrote in his book that he went off his meds when he testified to Congress about stem cell research. Fox's apperance was a charade.

He did not 'mock' Fox's disability. He repeatedly stated it was a horrible disease. He mocked the lies in the ad. The bill is to legalize CLONING at tax payers expense. Stem cell research is already legal in the state, and is being done.

It is worse form for a conservative to believe big media's headlines. Rush absolutely did NOT mock Michael J Fox. Rush was compassionate.

The disease is no joke. But, not taking the meds in order to look more pathetic in an ad intended to convince people to vote for Fox's favorite leftists is disgraceful.

"Look at me! I have a disease and it's all Jim Talent's fault! Boo-hoo." It reminds me of the old Cerebral Palsy telethons out of NY where the hosts had stricken children shamble painfully in a circle while they played a song that went, "Look at me, I'm walking! Look at me, I'm talking!" What a shameful belittling of the sufferings of all the OTHER people who have Parkinson's!

Rush isnt mocking anyone. He is just stating what Michale Fox himself admitted. That he stops taking his medications before making these ads.

My father has had Parkinsons for ten years and I know a little about it also.

When Michael J. Fox does an episode for of the weekly series shows like Boston Legal, Law And Order, or any other that I have seen, he never demonstrates the symptomology that was evident in the political video he just did for the Demoncrats. Why not?? And why did he and his people offer what amounts to a non-denial of the specific charge....that he was off his meds or was acting?

Based on my having seen him do several TV shows without the extreme movement and ticks I would agree fully with Rush's observation. It may not have been smart for Rush to point it out because of the blatant dishonesty of the media and their craven distortions of facts, but just the same, Rush is right and Fox knows it.

Quote: "It's bad form to mock one's disability. Poor choice on Rush's part."

First off, I did not think Rush was mocking anything. Secondly, its even worse form to exploit one's disability for political purposes, especially when it is to promote an outright untruth an outright smear. Poor choice on Michael J. Fox's part.

As to the untruth, the Republicans are not against stem cell research. As a matter of fact they favor all forms of the research except embryonic stem cell research. But in the church of liberalism, anything to involves killing babies or using the by product from killing babies must be supported no matter what tactic must be employed.

democrat + embryonic stem cell research = pro abortion agenda. The equation is that simple.

BTW in Parkinsons's, dementia often occurs BEFORE the late stages and many behavioral problems (such as OCD and worsening decision making skills) can occur prior to even the early symptoms. Just ask their spouses or family members.
