1) No person may clone or attempt to clone a human being.
(2) No human blastocyst may be produced by fertilization solely for the purpose of stem cell research.
In the definitions:
(2) Clone or attempt to clone a human being means to implant in a uterus or attempt to implant in a uterus anything other than the product of fertilization of an egg of a human female by a sperm of a human male for the purpose of initiating a pregnancy that could result in the creation of a human fetus, or the birth of a human being.
Because the amendment defines cloning in relation to implanting in the uterus, researchers will be free to clone as many human blastocysts as they want, provided they never implant them. Note that it says no human blastocyst may be produced by fertilization solely for the purpose of stem cell research. But they will be allowed to produce them by cloning solely for stem cell research.
Clever, these death worshippers.
It does nothing to further what "experts" argue is embryonic stem cell research, what it does is change the Missouri Constitution to irreversibly legalizing human cloning.
What's clever is the overkill of scientific and medical terms that would glaze over the eyes of average people.
That was Rush's point, it was writing cloning into the law.
Why does this belong in a Constitution. What is wrong with MO.
A 'RAT infestation perhaps?
It's not Missouri, it's technocrats gone wild.
Libs are freakin' morons for sure.
Don't FORCE us to pay for research we oppose on moral grounds.
No one is preventing you from doing this research - we are rejecting your attempts to use OUR money to do it.
Pay for it yourself, Libs, and stay the hell away from us.
Well, no reason for legislators anymore, we can simply allow the scientists to control the check book.
Oh yeah, we've got 'em a plenty!
The ammendment doesnt force you or anyone else to pay for anything. The only thing you cant do is decide to pass a law prohibiting a hospital from receiving their normal Medicaid reimbursement just because they are researching or using embryonic stem cells as treatment. It means you cant use the strong arm of the government's taxing and spending power to prohibit behavior that is legal under both state and federal law. The ammendment is right there. Can you point out the line that says they are going to raise your taxes?
Wow. In Virginia, our marriage amendment has THREE SENTENCES in it, and the opponents are complaining that the 2nd two sentences are too confusing and might lead to excessive litigation.
And the ads in favor are deceptive. Some claim that cloning is banned by the amendment, which you might think was true if you did not study the entire thing.
Hey genius, where do you think the money comes from?
And deceitful.
What are you talking about? There is nothing in the ammendment about spending money on stem cell research. Nada. So no tax money is going to pay for it. Unless legistlators decide to authorize it like they would money for roads or schools but the ammendment has no bearing on that. They could do that now if they had the votes.
Read my lips.
By PREVENTING Federal funds from being denied to institutions that practice stem cell research, we are SUPPORTING stem cell research institutions with FEDERAL MONEY.
Do you have any clue what you are talking about? You arent making any sense? Do you even live in Missouri?
Earth to Dave - Missouri does not have a monopoly on morality.
