CA: Bush who? Gov. says
Los Angeles Times ^ | October 24, 2006 | Michael Finnegan and Scott Martelle

Posted on 10/24/2006 8:53:46 PM PDT by calcowgirl

After weeks of subtle jabs at fellow Republicans in Congress and the White House, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger turned more blunt Tuesday in a tart letter to President Bush. Chiding the president for ignoring his plea for more leeway to toughen California's vehicle exhaust standards, Schwarzenegger complained about "the absence of a coherent federal policy" to stop global warming.

At tightly staged events this week in San Diego, Glendale and Oakland, Schwarzenegger has all but severed his Republican ties while playing up the value of bipartisan harmony.

He has also taken pains to widen his appeal beyond white Republican men, his most loyal supporters. At every stop, Schwarzenegger has surrounded himself with African Americans or Latinos and stuck to themes that resonate with Democrats, independents and women: the environment and education.

For months, the governor has kept a distance from his party, a strategic necessity in a state where just over a third of registered voters are Republican. He has avoided public events with other Republican candidates and refused to endorse the party's staunchly conservative U.S. Senate nominee, former state Sen. Dick Mountjoy of Monrovia. And in an interview last week, Schwarzenegger sidestepped the question of how much he cares whether Republicans win other statewide races.

"To be honest with you, my focus right now is on really moving the state of California forward," he said, "and for me to get in there so I can finish all of what I envision for the future of California to be, and if this has a positive effect on the down-ticket, that's great."

As he campaigned in San Diego on Sunday at black churches — a historic proving ground for Democrats — Schwarzenegger also dodged the question of whether he wants Republicans to keep control of Congress.

Arnold is married to the Kennedy clan. Is is a democrat. He can call himself whatever he thinks, but he is a democrat through and through. You don't think his Kennedy wife will vote republican do you?

I have voted Republican in this state since Reagan.
Im voting for Arnold.

You dont let go of the edge and let yourself fall into the liberal chasm. You hang on to the edge and struggle for solid conservative ground. YES, it will take effort and struggle. But that is chance.

If Angelides won?
MY GOD.

In the meantime Angelides is against Prop. 90, the eminent domain proposition.

Angelides hits Schwarzenegger for 'character flaw' (Phil A. against Prop 90)

So , do you think people should vote for Angelides, instead?

I believe Arnie is trying to run on his own merit. Remember Angelides keeps trying to win on the outlandish statements he keeps making about everyone hating Bush, tying Schwarzenegger in with the Bush Administration.

Arnie is way ahead and loser Angelides is desperate.

In what has become a rare nod to a conservative base that he once tended to assiduously, Schwarzenegger plans to appear Friday on "Hannity & Colmes," a Fox News television show to be taped on the Midway, the San Diego Aircraft Carrier Museum.

Anyone wants to go to an Angelides rally, instead of supporting Arnold?

To capitalize on a national political climate that strongly favors Democrats, Angelides will appear at a UCLA rally Thursday with party Chairman Howard Dean. On Friday, three of the party's biggest stars are slated to join him at a USC rally: Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

I believe some folks here need to recognize who published the article: LA Slimes, which alters/twists/or otherwise attempts to discredit what the sayer actually said. I do not trust the Slimes for honest reporting.

I would be. Too bad there is no Republican candidate running for Governor. Now I need to look elsewhere.

Your quote: "For months, the governor has kept a distance from his party, a strategic necessity in a state where just over a third of registered voters are Republican."

Your tag: "Vote Republican. The life you save may be your own. This is not an exaggeration."

Notice the dissonance?

The LA Times endorsed Arnold.

Schwarzenegger also dodged the question of whether he wants Republicans to keep control of Congress. "I think that's a choice that the people have to make," he said. Pressed to state his own view, he said, "I myself will look at the list when I vote for my congressional delegation," and went on to praise members of both major parties.

A stanch pubbie has NO time for a Hollywood actor married to a kennedy clan & that has influence over his decisions. There is no way he gets my vote. I'll die today rather than a 1000 cuts from these pseudo-conservatives.

I expect Arnold to come out against Prop 90, as well. They will both be wrong. YES on Prop 90!

Schwarzenegger said Tuesday he has not taken a position on Proposition 90, though he intends to "very soon because I'm looking at all the aspects. As you know, it's a very complicated issue, and so I'm looking at all the different angles so that I come out very clear." (Source)
