Aren't immigrants allowed if they come legally and are naturalized?
"Immigrants who have become naturalized U.S. citizens are eligible to vote"
Popular interpretations of the term "immigrant" don't apply here. Besides, Mr. Nguyen was never really an "immigrant" in the popular meaning of the word ~ he was a "refugee". America is most properly referred to as a "nation of refugees", not a "nation of immigrants".
Technically, an "immigrant" who has been naturalized can vote. However, "illegal immigrants" have said that people can't be illegal, and they are not all called "immigrants". This letter writer was just being politically correct.
Immigrant citizens are allowed to vote, not illegal aliens. which is why it is important we do not blurr the terms, legalizing illegal aliens.
