Now if only the Cape had a strong Republican top of the ticket candidate to give Jeff some coattails. But, it is looking like the Governor's race is fizzling out.
If Jeff can pull 40% of the Vote down there, you guys really should get him to run again. 2008 is going to bring out a strong Republican base, McCain or Guiliani would energize the Northeast GOP's, and with Hillary! on the other side, Independents will be flocking to the GOP to stop the Hildabeast DemoRATS. If he gets 40%+ this time around, Jeff could be a serious contender next time around, Delahunt won't be able to ignore him. But this year, the stars are far from aligned for GOP success here in Massachusetts, or in the Nation in general. It is a shame that so many good candidates won't be getting any attention or money from the RNC because they have to be preoccupied with keeping the seats we already have.
Great Work! Keep us informed. Anything could happen, and we could get a November Surprise down there in the 10th.

Yeah, but the media is doing what the always media does best. Sensationalizing and making money off of their own hype. And as we all know, lefties will turn on their own grandmother for a buck. But that doesn't mean they'll vote anything BUT liberal left though. I'd be really shocked to be wrong here. Shocked and happy. But I don't see it happening. Not in MA.

You are right...Bush never claimed to be anymore than what that was...
But, as far as the libs are concerned he might as well have headed to Canada...or burned his draft card.

Actually, the media in Massis eating this stuff up! Like the drive by media ate up Lewinsky? Sorry, Race, but I see this as a dead issue.
If the man hadn't served at all, and called himself a vet, people would be outraged. He may not technically qualify for the term veteran, but he was in the reserves for 9 years.
The issue will quickly become "Dem in Coast Guard Reserves for 9 years, Republican challenger is nitpicky".

"But it was Active Duty for Training, which doesn't count for Veteran status."
Someone correct me, it also mentions the National Guard in the same way ... unless they are called up, isn't most of what they do just training ? Are all these guys excluded also ?

The Massachesetts law is abundantly clear on this point.
Chapter 31: Section 1. Massachusetts General Laws Veteran, any person who: ...
A veteran shall not include active duty for training in the army national guard or air national guard or active duty for training as a reservist in the armed forces of the United States.
.
If there are any questions, any officer from the Coastie Reserves should be more than happy to assist Mister Delahunt with the correct description of his status.
As a real veteran, I'm particularly offended when anyone tries to fake being a vet.
Also, I don't think that even Massachusetts voters like this kind of imposturous deceit. It goes to accountability and trustworthiness. (If Bill lies about being a veteran, what other falsehoods and forgeries are in his repertoire?)
BTW, I have a very high regard for the Coast Guard (they call themselves "Coasties") and also for the Coastie reserves. Former and genuinely active duty Coast Guard are, of course, veterans, in every sense of the word.

Someone correct me, it also mentions the National Guard in the same way ... unless they are called up, isn't most of what they do just training ? Are all these guys excluded also ? Yes. There are two major ways a Reservist or Guardsman can be on active duty (there are others too). They can be activated or federalized, in which case the time counts for purposes of being a veteran, under federal and most state laws. They can be on Active Duty For Training, in which case it doesn't. Guardsmen can also be activated in a state status, such as for diaster relief, riot duty, etc. I don't think that counts either. (I was only a Guardsman for a year or so and it never came up).
All the troops, Guard and Reserve, being called up (that is federalized) for the current unpleasantness do have their time count for veteran status. Since the "standard" tour seems to be a year, plus training and demobilization time at each end, they should mostly qualify as veterans, even if they weren't before. (Many, probably most, except maybe in the Army Guard and Reserve are prior active duty anyway, and so were already veterans when they joined the Reserve Forces)

IIRC, Deladunce replaced Gerry Studds, the arrogant fag that just died, in the '96 election cycle. Before that he was a DA and state rep.

That is a Mass rep Dodgson who was recently arrested for soliciting 13 year old girls on the internet. Whew! For a moment there, I thought he was a homosexual. Move on. Nothing to see here.

Howie Carr does a column for the Herald... he'll be on it. I'm sure he'll also cover it well on his syndicated, radio talk-show.
