fyi. Crunch time at the NY Slimes.
fyi and ping lists.
FYI and indexing.
What ever happened to that Pakistani guy who they were investigating until they were called off and sicced on Hatfill?
Thanks for the heads up on this, Grampa Dave.
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my miscellaneous ping list.
If you go all the way back to the beginning, it was all about the Biological and Toxic Weapons Convention (BTWC) in July and August of 2001. The Bush Administration disrupted that convention because they refused to go along with inspections of bioweapons facilities. They claimed that such conventions wouldn't apply to terrorists, only to countries.
And then a month or two later, someone sent anthrax through the mails. The conspiracy theorists saw it as an act by the Bush Administration to PROVE that inspections were not in the best interests of the United States.
In November of 2001, at the next BTWC meeting, Barbara Hatch Rosenberg gave a speech suggesting that the U.S. government knew who sent the letters. And she started point the finger at Dr. Hatfill without actually naming him.
That was the start of a campaign to get Dr. Hatfill investigated. Nicolas Kristoff was just ONE of the reporters who believed the conspiracy theory. Marilyn Thompson at the Washington Post was another.
And don't forget, there's another lawsuit underway because Vanity Fair Magazine and Readers' Digest Magazine printed an article by Don Foster which pointed the Finger at Dr. Hatfill. There could be a settlement in that case at any moment.

All I know is that someone would have to have access to the technology to make weaponized anthrax...
You're joking, I hope?
Of course not. People who want to believe that Muslims did it look for things they can twist to "prove" they are right. They have a whole list of things about how the 9/11 hijackers COULD have been working with anthrax. It doesn't make any difference to them that the 9/11 hijackers were DEAD at the time of the mailings, and that no sign of anthrax was found anywhere they went. They just assume that some other Muslims could have done it, and (until the real culprit is tried and convicted) no one can prove otherwise.
Somehow it makes sense to such people that Muslim terrorists would send anthrax through the mails to two liberal Senators, and that Muslim terrorists would include medical advice in the media letters to make sure no one was harmed, that they'd take precautions to make sure the damage was MINIMAL, and that, even though these Muslim terrorists had anthrax, they didn't use it in a MAJOR bioweapons attack when Afghanistan was invaded, etc.
The idea that Muslims sent the anthrax letters is just plain STUPID. But no one can prove it wrong.

And it was stated by General Parker from USAMRIID at the very beginning that the term "weaponized" was not the proper term for the anthrax used in the attacks. He said the term "professionally done" was more appropriate. That means it could have been done by just about any microbiologist. And it could have been made in just about any hospital lab or well-equipped college microbiology lab, and certainly in any professional microbiology lab.

I don't think any "Pakistani guy" was ever seen as a serious suspect. Those Pakistanis who were investigated as a result of a tip because they were throwing out liquids were investigated like a lot of other people, but nothing came of it. There was no reason to link them to the anthrax attacks. The liquid they were throwing out was just water from a dishwasher that broke.

Good deal!
Thanks for posting the information on this. I too wonder why the MSM hasn't made this known everywhere.
I agree. Glad you noticed and reported on these happenings..
Meanwhile, the FBI has presumably been trying to figure out who actually sent the anthrax letters. They've said for years that they were whittling down a list of from 12 to 30 possible suspects.
My personal feelings is that BOTH SIDES are wrong. The culprit was neither a Muslim nor a Right Wing extremist. He was a worried scientist who was absolutely convinced that 9/11 would be followed by a devistating biological attack that could kill MILLIONS, and no one seemed to be taking any measures to prevent it. So, he sent anthrax letters to the media, telling them "THIS IS NEXT" (meaning a biological attack with anthrax is next) and "TAKE PENICILIN NOW" (meaning: take pecautions and protect ourself. Penicillin will protect you from anthrax).
When the media just ignored his first mailings, and when a couple liberal senators were fighting the Patriot Act in order to protect "civil rights" when MILLIONS could die at any moment, the anthrax mailer decided to send something that they couldn't ignore. He sent REFINED anthrax to the two senators.

A site called OpinionBug.com is also spreading the word.

That appears to be what they've been thinking since around November of 2001.
I have a hard time believing someone would be showing their concern and care for our Nation's vulnerability by poisoning American people.
Yes, a lot of people have a hard time believing that. But that doesn't mean it is not true. After all, he did give medical advice in the first mailing and in the second mailing he TOLD the recipients the powder was anthrax. Plus, anthrax does not kill instantly. If there's time to take antibiotics, the risk is a lot less. Plus, he took precautions to limit the exposure -- he taped the letters shut and used a totally phony return address on the Senate letters so there would be no chance that the letters would be returned to a REAL school. (Would a Muslim terrorist have worried about that?)
