Wow! The anti-English rhetoric is pretty durn nasty in that one. Was 'the "Irish People,"(sic) August 19th' published in America? Although couched in defensive tone, it's pretty harsh to say:
[...]arm yourselves to the teeth; if you or any one belonging to you be injured by any assault whatever, take the law into your own hands, for the law refuses you protection, and shoot down the Orange dogs as you would the commonest vermin that afflict your premises.
No wonder there was such a feeling toward the Irish.

And Thomas Nast et al were the mainstream press of the day. There were some real extremists at the fringes!
