SHIITE MILITIA SEIZES IRAQI CITY! (Muqtada al-Sadr's Militia Seizes Amarah!)

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- The Shiite militia run by anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr seized total control of the southern Iraqi city of Amarah on Friday in one of the boldest acts of defiance yet by one of the country's powerful, unofficial armies, witnesses and police said.

Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki dispatched an emergency security delegation that included the Minister of State for Security Affairs and top officials from the Interior and Defense ministries, Yassin Majid, the prime minister's media adviser, told The Associated Press.

The Mahdi Army fighters stormed three main police stations Friday morning, planting explosives that flattened the buildings, residents said.

About 800 black-clad militiamen with Kalashnikov rifles and rocket-propelled grenade launchers were patrolling city streets in commandeered police vehicles, eyewitnesses said. Other fighters had set up roadblocks on routes into the city and sound trucks circulated telling residents to stay indoors.

Good thing you are not a commander on the ground or at the Pentagon.
He may as well be. This whole "it's complicated" cop-out is precisely what our "leaders" are pulling.

Used to be you waged wars in a direct fashion: you trained your troops, you located the enemy, you killed the enemy and deprived them of the means and will to fight. That was how you waged wars.

Instead, our troops are being slaughtered to accommodate "politically correct" lunacy

This is WW4, WW3 being the cold war with Russia. WW1 WW2 WW3 were wars with nation states.

WW4 is war with terrorists not a nation state. That is where you are missing the main point of the war. Have you been to the middle east, I have. This is of culture not land, or money, but a way of life (freedom not 7th century dictatorship) and over natural resources. Get your bikes out if we lose this one. These terrorist want to control oil and use as weapon against the western way of life.

get it???

I posted this thought on another thread, but it relates here as well. We recently arrested one of Sadr's deputies who was implicated in the terrorist death squads. We are now subordinate to the Iraqi civilian government which ordered us to release the deputy. We complied. Sadr and his militia are part of the Iraqi government, control three ministries and have something like thirty members of the governing assembly.

We now find ourself fighting terrorists who can affect if not control Iraqi government actions. This is an impossible situation for our troops. We need to either change Maliki's thinking (unlikely), get him replaced with someone who is willing to do the brutal necessary killing on a large scale or get out. Getting out will lead to total chaos. Our choices are not good.

I was actually trying to find a good name for this forum (which is not an easy thing to do) and I happened to read something in a Science magazine about life on other planets and I thought about aliens and of course area51 came up.

El Guapo's great!....there's just something about Muqtada's picture that reminded me of Guapo.

Jefe: We have many beautiful pinatas for your birthday celebration, each one filled with little surprises!
El Guapo: How many pinatas?
Jefe: Many pinatas, many!
El Guapo: Jefe, would you say I have a plethora of pinatas?
Jefe: A what?
El Guapo: A *plethora*.
Jefe: Oh yes, El Guapo. You have a plethora.
El Guapo: Jefe, what is a plethora?
Jefe: Why, El Guapo?
El Guapo: Well, you just told me that I had a plethora, and I would just like to know if you know what it means to have a plethora. I would not like to think that someone would tell someone else he has a plethora, and then find out that that person has *no idea* what it means to have a plethora.
Jefe: El Guapo, I know that I, Jefe, do not have your superior intellect and education, but could it be that once again, you are angry at something else, and are looking to take it out on me?

Now is the time for the Iraqi Army and our soldiers to go in and clean out that rat's nest. Get Sadr and try him for being a traitor to Iraq and for all the horrible atrocities he has condoned on the Iraqi people.

I agree with your comment that liberal thinking and MSM do not want to face the truth we are fighting WW4, with WW1 WW2 WW3 cold war.

Also weaked kneed converatives who mourn for the loss of life of an american soldier use emotion to say get out. And also pounded every day by the alies of terror, MSM, and people use the war to gain power for their benefit. this will be a long struggle, one terrorist at a time, minds and hearts of the middle east. For bad men to rule, good men must do nothing to stop them and so must pickup the gun and fight them.

Having retired and have lived a full life and understand whats at risk for my children, volenteered for sniper duty in Iraq having such skills.

WW4 is a war of terror with a culture not a state and this war will be fought by us who understand and our children.

Memorials for American Victims of Middle East Terrorists

We have been fighting this middle east terrorists war since 1979 wiht thousands of americans killed, and our govt untill 911 ignoring the deaths, and cultural hate spewed by the terrorist against the western ways.

I do understand, the middle east having been in Kuwait helping to rebuild. I do understand the heartbreak as a member of the Patriot Guard riders

To look in the eyes of those who have lost their loved ones who have given their lives for this country and the freedom I enjoy that very day and thank them from the bottom of my heart is one of the greatest honors I have ever had. It breaks my heart and makes it soar at the same moment. God bless this family and give them comfort and peace!

Hey, 51

Almost 2 years ago, I posted this on another site just before joining FR. I also sent this to the WH because I felt very strongly about Al-Sadr taking over for the Iranians after the Iraqi elections.

As you can see, some sections apply today.

I apologize for the long post.

Regards.

THE IRANIAN NUCLEAR SITES AND ALL THEIR WESTERN AND CENTRAL MILITARY BASES SHOULD BE BOMBED BEFORE THE IRAQI ELECTIONS

Here are the reasons:

The United States could unwittingly create an Islamofascist superpower armed with two devastating weapons of blackmail: oil and nukes. The new Evil Empire may extend from the Caspian Sea and the Indian Ocean to the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean. If we allow such an entity to rise, the Soviet Union would be a fond memory that pales in comparison. We would be sowing the seeds of an uncontrollable domino effect in the Middle East -- one we would be advised not to set in motion.

Here is what I see happening in the near future:

Unlike the historic elections in Afghanistan, the already notorious upcoming elections in Iraq will almost certainly yield terrible results. One such result would be a murderous Iranian agent, Moqtada Al-Sadr, winning a de facto immunity in a "democratically elected government." There is no doubt in my mind that the mullah regime in Iran will control its offspring in Iraq. When -- not if -- Al-Sadr assassinates Ayatollah Al-Sistani and takes over, what will we do? And what about the inevitable threat such a regime will pose to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, placing most of the world's oil reserves in the hands of a bunch of mullahs armed with nukes? Do we really want to face all these dangers in the name of "democracy" -- a democracy that will never be exercised? This would mark the first legitimately elected theocracy in a country liberated by American blood and treasure.

The answer to the above questions is a resounding no. How can we avoid a disaster of our own doing? It is a complicated answer and needs courage to implement.

1. The Iranian mullahs and their Syrian allies are supplying fighters, money, and weapons to aid the B'aathist insurgency in Iraq. Moreover, they are harboring Usama bin Laden and his cohorts. According to the Bush Doctrine, Iran should be hit hard now. We shouldn't be bashful; it's regime change, stupid! We can't afford to wait for the UN or the Europeans to stop the Iranian mullahs. It would be hoping against hope to believe that the Europeans don't want to make money and let us be killed in the process. It is apparent that the mullahs are playing for a much shorter time than anyone expects, perhaps including our own intelligence services?

2. Middle Eastern tyrants worry about one thing only: holding on to their illegitimate thrones. Once we openly threaten their "chairs," as people call them in the Middle East, they will dive into their holes and behave. This is a well known element of the Middle Eastern mentality/psychology. Dealing with these tyrants is simple enough when they know that you mean what you say. Saddam didn't behave because he thought he had purchased European protection.

3. There will be no fallout from the bombing of Iran. Most of the world made up its mind already. The Middle East has always wanted and appreciated resolute strength. It is the only thing they respect.

ancient history? tell that to your local wwII vets....

You know what I mean. This is 2006, not 1945. The high level of American political will that dropped nuclear weapons, and firebombed Tokyo and Dresden into the ground, is gone. It's nothing more than history now.
