Back on October 6, Katie Couric promised that the Mark Foley scandal is not going away. And just under two weeks later, on Thursday night, she did her part to keep it alive by leading the CBS Evening News with six minutes on it, starting with salacious descriptions of the teenage Mark Foley's alleged sexual activity with a Catholic priest. Couric offered a warning to viewers as she hyped the supposed importance of the priest's recollections: A stunning development tonight in the congressional page scandal, and you may not want your young children to hear the story we're about to tell. The priest Mark Foley accused of molesting him as a child has come forward. Now retired, the priest admits that he and Foley, then barely a teenager, were naked together in a sauna, but he says, quote, 'Everybody does that.'

That's fine. It'll slowly dawn on these folks the man is a victim and well if democrats won't stand up for a victim, who will. I expect a panel of psychologists to come to the startling conclusion about the time of the election. Meanwhile all manner of stickier foreign policy issues will remain on the back burner. The Repubs could have expected our enemies to get real jiggy and try to influence our elections. The carnage in Iraq comes to mind. I bet it quiets down on all fronts after the election. Meanwhile we fret over Foley. :)
Katie's viewing audience is approaching MSNBC numbers!
Foley is all they've got, even though polls indicate most folks don't give one shrill hoot, let alone two.
Let them keep burning up their resources on it.
On second thought, that's not such a good idea.
Regards, Ivan
Foley story is dead and CBS is Dead
No kidding - I'd be worried about this poor dead horse if anyone was actually, youw know, watching it. Same with Keith Olbermanwhydon'tyoushutup.
If a tree falls on CBS does it make a noise?
Old habits are hard to break. Given a choice between ratings and trying to sway an election through propaganda they just couldn't resist. CBS News, headquartered in New York City, might ponder life in the big city if they got all their wishes. They are nuclear target number one on the terrorist wish list.
What I'd love to see is a commercial that shows all of the dems slamming Foley (they've called him disgusting), then a statement of the only facts that we know, which is that the only actual sexual contact he had is with a 21 yr old ex-page. And then a statement that evangelical Christians agree with the democrats that homosexuality is a disgusting sin...although Christians aren't as intolerant as democrats because at least in Christianity there is an avenue for Foley to honestly repent and turn to God's grace for forgiveness whereas the democrats have no such avenue Foley would ever be redeemed. I'm sure the dems would love to have the truth of their intolerance of homosexuality pointed out so everyone sees them for the hypocrites they are.
This will really help ratings [/sarcasm].
Everybody USED to do that until the gayfication of the culture and the huge upsweep in sex crimes.
Are you saying that the Foley affair keeps Iraq off the front burner? Keep talkin', I say.
David Gibson, religion writer: "Well, these pedophiles, these child abusers are by definition almost self-delusional."
Stunning? Stunning? Katie, if you consider this tripe stunning, then you are self delusional. LOL!!
What a joke. Bunch of second-rate journalistic morons. There is little difference between this story and something you'd see in the National Inquirer. Of course, we must remember that all the TV networks are in the fall rating period and will do almost anything to get viewers.
Still, this is a hugh mountain made from a microscopic mole hill :)
The MSM is betting that this Foley thing is what can bring the Republicans down because they can't bring any real messages from their Democrat Allies. It's all they got at this point. Even the Iraqi war won't win it for the Rats because despite some setbacks Americans want to win and cutting and running won't lead to that victory. American's do want a change in approach and if the Republicans know what's good for them they better have that approach in play and victory in hand within a few months.
IS that horse really dead? or just playing possum?.......
I believe my tagline speaks to most thinking voters.
