Cordon off the city. Jam all civilain frequencies. Prosecute the battle with extreme prejudice. Give the city back the the lawful Iraqi government.

It might seem so in retrospect that some mistakes were made back in 2004. Fallujah should have been crushed, and Sadr and his bandites should have been taken out.

I supported the president when the US invaded Iraq in 2003, and I support him now in "staying the course" there. However, just as the "Global War on Terror" does not identify our enemies, so too, he, Rumsfeld etc have been imprecise in naming whom the enemy is in Iraq.

Al Qaeda appears to have been decimated there, but who really is fighting us - dead end Baathists, Shia death squads, Iranian agents, all of the above? We won't win until we know whom we must destroy. The president has done a bum job on this score.

I'm sorry to say that Prime Minister Maliki seems to be on the side of alSadr. Iraq will never have anything more than temporary lulls in violence while alSadr is a prominent figure. Since he takes orders from Iran, they either need to get rid of him, or get rid of his masters.

If we were serious about this war we would now level Amarah.
We ceased to be serious at the point that our guys took Baghdad. Than we flipped from warfighting mode to hearts-and-mindsand it has been downhill from there.
