Vladimir Putin "Jokes" About Being Jealous of the Israeli President, Accusing Him of Abuse
El Mundo ^ | 10/19/2006

The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, continued to show his peculiar sense of humor when he commented that he was jealous of his Israeli counterpart, Moshe Katzav, who has been accused of sexual abuses. The Russian daily Kommersant printed several of Putin's comments made at the Kremlin when he thought the microphones had been turned off. "Give my best to your president. Come on, big guy! Rape a dozen women! We didn't think he would do it. He has surprised us all. We're all jealous of him," Putin said yesterday in a meeting with the Iraeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert. According to Kommersant, Putin said these comments after the first greetings were exchanged between the two delegations, when the press had left the room and he believed all the microphones had been unplugged. "Supposedly Putin wanted to express his support to Mr. Olmert, who has been put in a complicated situation because of President Moshe Katzav," commented a correspondent who admitted that he didn't take seriously what he had just heard. 61 years old and president since 2000, Katzav has been the suspect in several rapes of office staff, three or four sexual assaults, obstruction of justice, wiretaps of his staff, misuse of public funds, and breach of trust. Nonetheless, Katzav has insisted on continuing his work as the President.

Probably a lot of Russians would find all those remarks quite funny ... their culture not quite the same as ours.

Sounds like Pooty-Poot and Emperor Billigula would get along great with that mentality.

A clumsy joke even in Russia. I begin to think that Putin isn't a good joker, he'd better leave joking to other people.

But the fact that a national Russian newspaper prints it is an evidence that Putin has killed all free press. /s

Looks like some in PR department asked him to be more "open", but Putin interpreted it incorrectly :)

That was no joke, it was a specific political statement along the lines of "we know where you keep your skeletons, and we will drag them out if need be." Not a threat, but a threat of a possible threat, just to know where the two parties stand.

"Give my best to your president. Come on, big guy! Rape a dozen women! We didn't think he would do it. He has surprised us all. We're all jealous of him,"

So much for your Christian defense.

Putin forgot to put "/sarcasm on" at the end of his speech.

Smth like: "What a strange guy you have as your president" to humble the Israeli delegation so it wouldn't ask the question: "Why were your weapons used by bloody Muslim terrorists against us?".

It's called sarcasm by Putin, and perfectly acceptable on Free Republic.

Putin didn't think an Israeli could rape nearly as many as his Ayatollah and Hizb-Allah comrades.

No matter what your KGB Putin hero does, you always rush to his "Christian defense". How commendable...comrade.

His mask as well as yours is being removed.
