A single towering issue Iraq powered Ned Lamont in his dramatic primary victory over Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman. Now Lamont is letting voters know he's got more to talk about than that, because Iraq alone isn't doing it for him in the fall campaign.
Lamont is ticking off plans for expanded health care, universal preschool education and curbs in the influence of lobbyists. He's decrying U.S. addiction to foreign oil. To be sure, Iraq is no more settled than when he tapped the anger of so many Democrats over the war's course, securing the Democratic place on the ticket from an 18-year veteran who almost became vice president.
But Lamont's post-primary glow has faded and he trails Lieberman, who is running as an independent in a state with a vast pool of independent, if Democratic-leaning, voters.
And when he stood in a college lecture hall in the old mill town of Willimantic, the war he wanted to talk about is the one he thinks should be declared on American reliance on foreign oil.
"It's dangerous to be buying billions of dollars of oil from a region of the world that's mired in conflict," Lamont said as he rolled out a plan for energy independence.
Two months ago, the multimillionaire businessman became a rising star with his insurgency against Lieberman, a moderate Democrat who dug in his heels in supporting the war even when other Democrats peeled away.
"He was a national celebrity," Gary Rose, a politics professor at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, said of Lamont. "But after he won his primary, it seemed like he became the invisible man for a while. Something was lost there."
Lamont trails Lieberman by 8 percentage points in the latest poll.
"His numbers seem to be frozen right now,"...

Maybe Lament can use the "Dump Nixon" platform. I'm pretty sure California's Phil Angelides is finished with it.
Lamont and Lieberman. Extreme leftist loons. I can't wait to be able listen to the radio without those ads.
These Lamonts have done real damage over the last century. Ned Lamont's great-grandfather was a big supporter of Italian fascism and helped bankroll Mussolini. This is not a matter of vague rumour. It is not circumstantial, like serving on the board of a bank that did business with some bad German company before WWII. This is big time boosterism in an open and proud way.
Great-uncle Corliss Lamont was a major American communist.
Ned can broaden his message to ensure voters know that he will be finaancially OK after he has taxed the rest of us out of existance. I am sure that concern for his wealth maintenance has helpd some voters back. And if it became tight Harry Reid can let him on an off-the-books land deal or two. That might reassure CT voters and broaden his base-of advocacy--not.
I'm not from CT, but if I was, I'd have to vote for Lieberman.
The Republican has no chance. Voting for him is a wasted vote.
However, Lieberman was abandoned by the Donkeys. They gave money and open support to Lamont, especially after Lamont took the nomination.
The Donkeys also promised to erase his seniority if he ran as an independent.
I have a hunch that Lieberman may not be as gung-ho for the Donkey caucus as he used to be.
It remains to be seen with whom he will caucus, after all is said and done.
This just proves to me that FR is filled with ex-investigative reporters...you're outed, darling.. ~Pray
If the candidates were only Lieberman and the GOP candidate (and the usual Green Party and "other" types), I assure you I would vote for the GOP candidate, just as I have always done over the years.

Connecticut ping!
Please Freepmail me if you want on or off my infrequent Connecticut ping list.
The enemy you know is better than the one which is unknown. Joe may require holding one's nose while voting, but the alternative is to watch Connecticut be flushed down a toilet, along with the rest of the country if the dems obtain power in congress. Maybe in the next election the Repubs can field a viable candidate.
I keep getting these annoyingflyers from Neddie. Guess it's cause I registered as an Independent back in college and just never got around to changing it to an R
I'm about to call up the Lamont headquarters and complain. Been thinnking that I should go the green route," how dare you cut down trees to send me this" line.
Regards, Ivan
I'm afraid those are our sad choices this year, Ivan. The devil you know is better than the RED devil you don't know...
Any other year, there is no question... I would vote for the GOP candidate.
Great post. Unfortunately that's the way it is in Connecticut right now.
God bless and a big THANK YOU to you and your son, by the way! :o)
Thank you for your kind comments regarding my son. I will pass them along to him the next time he calls.
