Just checked the TDCJ Death Row Info site
"Offenders No Longer on Death Row".
Looks like there have been:
31 - deaths on Death Row (not attributable to execution)
6 - suicides while on Death Row, and 1 suicide after leaving Death Row
3 - murdered while on Death Row
20 - died of 'natural causes' or various diseases (only 2 AIDS)
2 - killed while escaped (1 drowned, 1 lead poisoning, presumably)

Johnson slashed his throat with a makeshift blade fashioned from a small piece of metal attached to a wooden stick...I hope to hell it hurt.
Anyway, who cares?
The POS is dead either way.
One less puke to feed and care for, and look at what the state saved on the chemicals to snuff him with.

Just an unscientific observation I've made over the years, and in fact, I posted this on 9-28-06 about the gunman at the Colorado school:
Note to future parents...
DO NOT name your male babies "Duane".
Seriously, I wonder how many child molesters, murderers, rapists, meth addicts, etc., have been named "Duane", or "DeWayne", or something else similar?
Seems I've heard it on the news many times over the years, when stories such as this come about.
Maybe some lib researcher looking for a grant might jump on this burning question.
Of course, at that time, a guy, that MUST have been named Dewayne, said it was a pretty "mornic" thing for me to say!

Condemned prisoner Michael Dewayne Johnson committed suicide early today in his death-row cell, less than 18 hours before he was scheduled to be executed, a prison official said. The condemned should always be given that option.

I'd bet it cost $1,000 for the ambulance to come get him and take him to the hospital. I wonder who is gonna pay for the funeral home to come pick him up? Let me guess: The State of Texas? Do I went anything?:-)
