President Bush spent the day in
North Carolina
Traveling with the president were Press Secretary Tony Snow and Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings
After arriving in Greensboro, NC, the president enjoyed a barbeque lunch at Stameys Restaurant, then visited nearby Waldo C. Falkener Elementary School where he spoke about the No Child Left Behind initiative.
Later, President Bush traveled a few miles further south to visit The Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman, NC, then on to speak at a private GOP fundraiser.
Enjoy your Wednesday visit to Sanity Island
Quote of the Day:
President Bush (speaking at the Victory Junction Gang Camp): You know, it's a remarkable place. I can't tell you how thrilled I am to be with the Pettys and the champion race car drivers who have heard a call to help people who need help. And I wish our fellow citizens could see the physical layout here; and if you were here, you'd also feel the great sense of compassion. And, you know, the Petty family has been well-known for a long time in America. And they've been known as great athletes -- now they will be known as great humanitarians, as well. And so we really thank you.
Kyle Petty: Thank you.
President Bush: This is a place that's in honor of their son, Adam. They have made a conscious decision to turn a tragic event into a loving event. And that's what I feel here. And you guys did a good job. Thanks for having me.

The Presidents lunch
Greensboro -- Lunch is usually a busy time at Stamey's Barbecue restaurant on High Point Road in Greensboro. Now add the Commander-in-Chief, a Secret Service detail and a police escort to the mix.
Everything was a whirlwind by time he came in, said Barbara Bare, waitress. We suspected he was coming because we dont usually take reservations middle of lunch.
It was a last minute decision. The president's advance team called and asked for a reservation just twenty minutes before the president pulled into the parking lot.
Good thing owner Chip Stamey came into work Wednesday. We served him everything we had, said Stamey. He particularly liked the hush puppies and peach cobbler.
[Barbara Bare adds that the president ate barbeque and a lot of it with ice cream for desert.]
All that food didnt stop Mr. Bush from meeting and greeting.
He came in and spoke to everybody, said Todd Robinson, customer.
This is not the first time the president has eaten Stameys cooking. Chip Stamey said he sent take out to Mr. Bush once before when the president was in the Piedmont.
