Garth Turner suspended from Tory caucus
Last Updated: Wednesday, October 18, 2006 | 12:42 PM ET CBC News
Ontario MP Garth Turner has been suspended from the federal Conservative caucus for criticizing the prime minister.
Turner will be sitting as an independent.
Government House leader Rahim Jaffer said Wednesday that Turner was ousted on the recommendation of the party's Ontario caucus after he made one too many attacks on Prime Minister Stephen Harper and too often violated caucus confidentiality.
Jaffer said the suspension was a long time coming and the votes were unanimous.
Turner, who represents the Halton riding, has kept a blog on his website since the federal election last January.
Shortly after the Conservatives came into power, Turner spoke out against former Liberal MP David Emerson's defection to the Tories.

Thank you Mr. Harper! He was definitely a thorn on the side of the conservative movement and belonged in the Liberal Party.
Halton deserved better, and will get better!

He'd be a natural for the Liberal Leadership race, being all sanctimony and narcissism.

So, is this riding a safe Tory riding that will go back to the Conservatives in the next election? Or, is Turner, like Belinda Stronach, personally popular enough to hold the seat?

No loss whatsoever.
If anything, it makes Harper look decisive & puts him onside with all Canadians who rightly dislike slimy, self-entitled a$$holes.
My further comment & some background on Turner

Pretty rock solid CPC seat which takes in some of and/or immediately abuts the marvelous Orangville-area provincial one which would quite literally elect a dog running as a Tory.
Just follow the link in my post #5 for more background on Turner including how he managed to get elected last time out.

He won very narrowly last time, but turnout was low as there were no social conservatives running.

Blogger Stephen Taylor documents Garth Turner lied when he told reporters he'd never breached caucus confidentiality.
