Do we have a candidate in mind that would be more effective? From what I have seen, with Hastert as Speaker, the Republican Congress has maintained unity and resisted the Dems far better than the Senate has. He has done that, which is a good whip position, but the House leader should be able to get movement in the Senate, like Newt did. A good leader should be able to appeal to the American public and motivate them to get their congressmen in line.
