John Stuart Mill once famously called the British Tories "The Stupid Party." From time to time since then, the Tory's American cousin, the Republican Party, has also earned that moniker. Now may be one of those moments. If current polls and anecdotes are to be believed, there may be a million or two conservative Republicans who are planning to not vote this November. Of course, Mill also said that : "A person may cause evil to others not only by his actions but also by his inaction, and in either case he is justly accountable to them for the injury." Apparently, these anticipated conservative non-voters are annoyed with Republican imperfection. They are disheartened, disappointed, disillusioned, distempered, dismal -- and thus plan to dis the party that better advances conservative principles in government. They appear to have fallen victim to the false syllogism: 1) Something must be done; 2) not voting is something; therefore, 3) I will not vote. Of course the fallacy of the syllogism is that the second category could be anything. For example, number two could as well read "eating dog excrement is something." I rather suspect that they will feel about the same afterward, whether they chose the non-voting option or the scatological one. They are both equally illogical -- and repulsive -- and would deserve the moniker, "Stupid." Here are some tell-tale signs of the sort of person who would vote (or not vote) to cause the election of a party which would act to defeat every value and interest he holds dear (merely because the party that will at least try to advance most of those issues has not done as well as he might havehoped) ...............

Some say it was worth it for the '94 House takeover but I'm convinced we have the N. Korea crisis and 9/11 as a result.
Perot should be ashamed and so should the Perot voters.
It will be the same for those who stay home or vote 3rd party this time. Much damage will result.
If they aren't convinced by now, you are not going to convince them.
That means they are more of a threat to us than any moonbat. Someone that posts here and cannot realize that the Republicans offer the only real path to more conservative government, harms us more than libs.
I will never forget the 8 years of Clinton that Perot supporters gave us.
Male Bovine Fecal Effluvia. 'Pod.
Our "conservative" court just gave the green light to eminent domain abuse.
we haven't been attacked in five years
We are being invaded from the south by millions of people who don't like us want to take over a huge chunk of our country.
That sounds like a quote from Coffee Annan.
It IS stupid to stay home....those who would stay home and knowingly ALLOW a leftist socialist become Speaker of the House, and PRESIDENT should something happen to Bush/Cheney are stupid.
Democrats have done nothing about the border situation either. In fact, by their actions it would seem they prefer illegals in this country so they can have another welfare-discrimination based voting base.
More democrats than Republicans have stood in the way of reforming the Border situation.
A large Republican majority would give us the opportunity to clean out Rhinos while maintaining the majority and will ensure our freedom and prosperity in the future.
I am not happy about illegals in this Country, but I would not ruin this country's freedom over this one issue.
Back in 2004, Cameron Diaz warned that if Bush was reelected, rape would become legal. Bush won. Rape remains illegal.
If you want to win over voters, you're going to have to be smarter than Cameron Diaz.
So far, I'm not seeing much evidence of it.
Good luck with all that.
I agree with you.
I will vote. Whom I vote for depends on their positions on issues of interest to me.
All you party uber alles types can go take a flying leap at a rolling doughnut.
You are just plain wrong. No one can wave a magic wand and make fifty years of socialist policy disappear. Tax cuts, no new gun laws, conservative Supreme Court justices, tort reform, bankruptcy reform, building up the military, missile defense, the list goes on and on of conservative goals that Republicans have made happen over the last six years..
None of this would have happened without the Republicans and George Bush. Because you don't think they have gone far enough is no reason to hand control over the your worst nightmare.
A war that's being fought over in Iraq instead of on our soil
I'm pretty happy that no one in my town has gotten blown up yet...that's what we have to show for it.
Not to mention no Kyoto treaty and no world court.
For this alone the Repubs get my vote.
Gosh, how should I put this? If you claim to be a conservative and think not voting for Republicans helps your cause, you are acting like an idiot. If we were dealing with actual children, then nice little head-petting words might work. Adults however should be able to accept an honest analysis of their position. So when people fold their arms and stomp their feet while chanting "all or nothing" they will be properly labeled by me as idiots.
Prove me wrong. Name a Republican candidate, past or present, who agrees with you on ALL of your top 25 issues.
Good point. Tell me why I SHOULD vote for the canidate, not why I SHOULD NOT vote for the other one.
"That's what I'm doing. I'm using the only club I have. I'm withholding my vote until they come to their senses. It worked in '92 to get a conservative congress in '94"
or perhaps the dems will hold the house for another 40 years. You think the Dems or the MSM will ever let the republicans get close to taking back the house again. 94 was a perfect storm, no way the Media will go after any dem scandal (hell take a look around) and cause a major shift. Further, in the next two years they will keep Bush and republicans tied up with investigations, that the MSM will go 24/7 about so in 2008 republicans will be in a worst spot and could give us President Hillary.
That was basically my attitude and I've altered it primarily for two reasons.
The Dems cannot help but insult my character, my principles and my intelligence at every turn. The Reps do so at well, but not to the miraculous degree the Dems have perfected. The Foley mess being just their latest example of how they think a Christian mind ticks.
And, two, the fence legislation. Passed by around 80 Senate votes right? That shows ME that they have heard us on the issue and they know the vast majority of America is watching and infuriated with them pushing the McCain/Kennedy amnesty bill.
In April they fully expected to have passed amnesty. It's October and what they passed is a fence. Now they will try not to let it go up, but the fact they failed to get amnesty and failed to prevent this legislation from being approved tells me if we're committed they will lose yet again and that fence will go up.
This shows me that so long as Republicans are the majority we can force conservative progress down their throats if we pound them day after day without relenting.
We shouldn't have to work so hard. That is true. But we can still advance our goals whether they be tax cuts, accountability in spending, a fence, judges if we don't give an inch and hit them hard again and again on message.
The only way I can support tossing them out and starting fresh is if I'm convinced no progress can be made any longer. That is where I was a couple months ago. The fact they folded on the fence and McCain's O.J. trials for terrorists went down in flames tells me we still have some hope to squeeze what we want out of them.
You are right about the primaries though, at least Senate primaries. A RINO was ousted in the Governor's office in Alaska though. And House seats have experienced some success in open seats and even ousting one incumbent RINO. there is some hope in that regard, but clearly we still need some working in beaing the RNC's influence in protecting incumbent Senators.
