No thanks, we're stupid...... (conservatives who stay home)
Wash Times ^ | October 18, 2006 | Tony Blankley

John Stuart Mill once famously called the British Tories "The Stupid Party." From time to time since then, the Tory's American cousin, the Republican Party, has also earned that moniker. Now may be one of those moments. If current polls and anecdotes are to be believed, there may be a million or two conservative Republicans who are planning to not vote this November. Of course, Mill also said that : "A person may cause evil to others not only by his actions but also by his inaction, and in either case he is justly accountable to them for the injury." Apparently, these anticipated conservative non-voters are annoyed with Republican imperfection. They are disheartened, disappointed, disillusioned, distempered, dismal -- and thus plan to dis the party that better advances conservative principles in government. They appear to have fallen victim to the false syllogism: 1) Something must be done; 2) not voting is something; therefore, 3) I will not vote. Of course the fallacy of the syllogism is that the second category could be anything. For example, number two could as well read "eating dog excrement is something." I rather suspect that they will feel about the same afterward, whether they chose the non-voting option or the scatological one. They are both equally illogical -- and repulsive -- and would deserve the moniker, "Stupid." Here are some tell-tale signs of the sort of person who would vote (or not vote) to cause the election of a party which would act to defeat every value and interest he holds dear (merely because the party that will at least try to advance most of those issues has not done as well as he might havehoped) ...............

And if given the chance to be part of a process that selects which candidate gets to make decisions on things from how much of your earnings you keep to the defense of our own existence, wouldn't you take it?

I AM voting for the person that is the defense of my existence, and I don't plan on forgetting it.

The plan has been laid out, if it involves walking around a city three times a day and blowing the horn and shouting I will be doing that. No matter if it makes sense to you or not. The bible is clear on not picking evil to hopefully get good later on.. Yes I understand noone is perfect, but voting for true Godly men doing their best is my goal.

Otherwise they don't get my vote.

Wow, some Republicans voted against it. I would imagine you're ignoring the fact RINOs are in liberal states where they help us keep a majority in both houses.

Some Republicans. Like I said and you just proved it. You're willing to scap the Republican Party because "some Republicans voted against it".

Your car has a leaky tire and you want to take the bus. Good luck wlth that.

You have been well trained.

Well trained has nothing to do with it. The Democratic Party is my enemy, and I will do what I have to in order to defeat them. Staying home and allowing a Demoncrap to take any seat is for fools.

Any idiot should be able to understand that.

Yep. The Supreme Court and Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Two excellent reasons to vote.

So is this the thread where people sign up to show just how willing they are to put their own personal agenda before that of the country's?

This is cool; now we have a list to consult for future reference concerning just WHO is and isn't with us!

Nice that it's all in one place!

Sure looks that way Howlin! The "Cut off your nose to spite your face" crowd is alive and well on FR!

A portion, how large I don't know, keep screaming that for the GOP to be successful they have to move to the middle and drop the social conservatives.

That would be the death knell for them.

Hey, that's the philosophy that apparently guides the Massachusetts GOP -- and you know how successful it's been here! ;-)

I think you're right. I'm not sure whose side they're on ("conservative party"? LOL), but in the end it benefits the RATs...

Look at the names; it's the SAME ones who have been carping for the last six years, if not longer.

You're never going to change their minds.

Look at the poll on the front page; there's only 200 of them, but they have nothing else to do, so they post 24/7 so it LOOKS like there are a lot of them.

We're wasting our time even arguing with them.

Well, MA isn't your normal state. I'm surprised anyone that calls themselves a Republican is not strung up.

Any state that can vote Kerry and Kennedy in year after year is FUBAR.

National Security and Judicial Appointments trump all other issues.

Ok, national security - this might be of interest - http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1722153/posts

Judicial appointments - like harriet meiers? don't forget that the president makes the appointments. If you're afraid that gw will cave and start appointing "liberal" judges, just admit it.

The "judicial appointments" argument is shallow because an effective and popular leader like president bush would take a firm stand based on his convictions and continue to appoint only strict constructionists across the board. If the senate refuses to confirm them, instead of giving up, he would escalate the issue by taking it to the people. In the end he would prevail and defeat the liberals in the senate. Right?

Something radical is going to happen before people wake up.

You better hope it's not that you few malcontents cause the GOP to lose this upcoming election.

Because of that happens, you will NEVER have a voice in ANY party again, because the GOP is sick and tired of being blackmailed by you one issue voters.

You all seem to be under the impression that if you don't vote and the GOP loses, it will TEACH US A LESSON; well, you're right about that.

It will once and for all "teach us" that you all aren't worth the trouble we put into petting your dense little heads.

Think nobody listens now? Sit home and help the Democrats win; then try to get a dialtone.

Good point, Howlin. I noticed the "stay home" crowd on the FR poll yesterday... VERY small amount, fortunately.

Well, since I have other things to do, and can't post 24/7, I have to run for now... back later tonight! ;-)

On the contrary, if they win the next election, they will learn that they don't need our votes. However if they lose, they will see that they can't ignore us if they ever want control of Congress again.

Like I said before, it's amazing what a good swift kick in the butt will do.
