John Stuart Mill once famously called the British Tories "The Stupid Party." From time to time since then, the Tory's American cousin, the Republican Party, has also earned that moniker. Now may be one of those moments. If current polls and anecdotes are to be believed, there may be a million or two conservative Republicans who are planning to not vote this November. Of course, Mill also said that : "A person may cause evil to others not only by his actions but also by his inaction, and in either case he is justly accountable to them for the injury." Apparently, these anticipated conservative non-voters are annoyed with Republican imperfection. They are disheartened, disappointed, disillusioned, distempered, dismal -- and thus plan to dis the party that better advances conservative principles in government. They appear to have fallen victim to the false syllogism: 1) Something must be done; 2) not voting is something; therefore, 3) I will not vote. Of course the fallacy of the syllogism is that the second category could be anything. For example, number two could as well read "eating dog excrement is something." I rather suspect that they will feel about the same afterward, whether they chose the non-voting option or the scatological one. They are both equally illogical -- and repulsive -- and would deserve the moniker, "Stupid." Here are some tell-tale signs of the sort of person who would vote (or not vote) to cause the election of a party which would act to defeat every value and interest he holds dear (merely because the party that will at least try to advance most of those issues has not done as well as he might havehoped) ...............

I think the time to punish is in the primaries but there's absolutely no intelligence in attempting to insult others into voting the way we want.
I would only vote for Rudy as a last resort because of his pro choice position....but if it was Rudy or Hitlery, yes I would. Simply the lesser of two evils.
I would do everything in my power to stop him in the primaries though. I don't think Rudy has a chance because of his stance. Thank goodness he is not a dem though. We would be in real trouble in '08.
Of course, then you will conduct a purge because too many of these people will eventually become UINOs.
You know, Usses In Name Only.
Or, perhaps, it's AINOs.
This would require the change of only one letter and is far more apt.
I'm with you.
My voted isn't for sale. It can't be scared out of me. It can't bullied. It must be earned and the the GOP (as a whole) has not earned it. There are a few good pubbies that I will vote for but mostly I will use the write in function.
You two just go on kicking butt. I'm taking the names for you.
Great job, both of you. I really am amazed at the responses here. I've taken to calling them Diapered Americans because one of them cried when I called him a Wet Pants Republican.
you left out courts
Like I said earlier, it seems too many are holding out for a candidate that will never exist, unless they run themselves.
RacerF150 sez:
"I'm not here to protect your tender little feelings. If you're that fragile, maybe you should knit quilts instead of discussing politics."
Not only are you incapable of winning people to your side, you are chasing away those who already are. Buy a clue.
And you are what, the pretty one bragging about giving it up to anyone who whispers in your ear? You and Monica have a lot in common.
I hope you enjoy your vocation very much.
Are you taking about the Roberts' Court?
We are being invaded from the south by millions of people who don't like us want to take over a huge chunk of our country.
We do not stand a chance against their leafblowers and dish rags.
Well... we'll go out with a whimper... there's never any great battle that does an empire in. China has never been able to unite themselves enough to project their power, but television, satellites, etc. have bridged the gaps. We're mistaken if we think our products... even cultural products... will transform them into pro-Western zombies. We borrowed so much from Europe and then booted them out of the Americas. Yes... Christendom is about the only hope. Remember "I give them empire without end" (Aeneas' father speaking to him in the underworld concerning the Romans) The Eternal City might move to China.
"I voted for Graham, and I will punish him the next election in the primaries. If he wins the primary, I will hold my nose and vote for him again,"
You have been well trained. Be careful to chew a while. If you swallow the party line whole, you may choke on it.
The thing is, unlike Islam, China is not proud. Not too culturally proud to adopt the advantages of Western Society. They bought into the system... and have done what makes us so successful... they made it their own. They took capitalism and bent the rules to give them an upper hand... now we're begging them to play fair.
I'm on the same page as you on immigration and unhappy with the GOP from top to bottom but our children will reap what the demos & illegals will sow.
I don't know about you, but I've never had a problem being insulted into doing the right thing. When I was young and would do something stupid, my father would not buy me an ice cream cone and beg me to listen. He knew the long-term pain and humiliation of acting foolish was greater than the short-term pain of his belt.
As long as people like you who claim to be conservative refuse to help us fight off the threat of liberal-Democrat domination, I will consider you to be acting foolish. It's not personal.
Right, which is why I doubt we will have much to worry about for a long time, in terms of global power. I just think China will do what we did in the 1800's... develop its regional hegemony... build up its market... settle internal disputes... and wait for its turn.
So you think that being appeasable is something to be proud of?
