No thanks, we're stupid...... (conservatives who stay home)
Wash Times ^ | October 18, 2006 | Tony Blankley

John Stuart Mill once famously called the British Tories "The Stupid Party." From time to time since then, the Tory's American cousin, the Republican Party, has also earned that moniker. Now may be one of those moments. If current polls and anecdotes are to be believed, there may be a million or two conservative Republicans who are planning to not vote this November. Of course, Mill also said that : "A person may cause evil to others not only by his actions but also by his inaction, and in either case he is justly accountable to them for the injury." Apparently, these anticipated conservative non-voters are annoyed with Republican imperfection. They are disheartened, disappointed, disillusioned, distempered, dismal -- and thus plan to dis the party that better advances conservative principles in government. They appear to have fallen victim to the false syllogism: 1) Something must be done; 2) not voting is something; therefore, 3) I will not vote. Of course the fallacy of the syllogism is that the second category could be anything. For example, number two could as well read "eating dog excrement is something." I rather suspect that they will feel about the same afterward, whether they chose the non-voting option or the scatological one. They are both equally illogical -- and repulsive -- and would deserve the moniker, "Stupid." Here are some tell-tale signs of the sort of person who would vote (or not vote) to cause the election of a party which would act to defeat every value and interest he holds dear (merely because the party that will at least try to advance most of those issues has not done as well as he might havehoped) ...............

Evidently you are incapable of processing a single point that doesn't fit your paradigm that conservatives are stupid for not voting Rep and hence must be insulted because that has worked so damn well for the Democrats in winning elections. Grow up. Learn to construct an argument people can rally towards rather then alienating the very same voters you need for a majority. I told you how to go about doing so, and you are too harded to listen. Your loss, but forgive me if I find any contribution you consider yourself to have made in this thread to be worthless about now.

I'm not here to protect your tender little feelings. If you're that fragile, maybe you should knit quilts instead of discussing politics.

Wholesale reform of the Federal tax code would not have been impossible within six years. Republicans own the government, and what have they done with it?

You are out of your mind. The Republicans don't "own" the government. We have small majorities in the House and the Senate, and when you take into account the Repubs from liberal states, there is not and never has been a conservative majority.

If your chief argument is that a Republican government is a lot better than the alternative, then I'm sorry for you. You're being played for a chump. You have voted for being rump-rangered just a little because it's preferable to being rump-rangered a lot.

Of course, you ignore the fact that measured against GDP, the government has grown very little. With two wars, a recession, an attack on New York, the meltdown of the dotcoms, and about 15 hurricanes, our budget was not going to get cut. But apparently there are a lot of people that believe in a "budget cutting fairy". I am not one of them. Until we can cut the budget, I sure would prefer Republicans to be spending the money on their supporters than Dems spending it on theirs.

If you really want to get back doored, just let the Dems get back in power.

I would very much like to vote for the party who will shrink government, reduce Federal spending, and increase the freedom of the several states and the people. Would the party willing to do that please stand up?

That's the Libertarians, and they couldn't get elected dog catcher.

It's principle or nothing. If the party wants my support, let them earn it.

You remind me of an ugly girl bragging about maintaining her virginity.

How so? Clinton was in office until 2001 and completely *ucked-up national security, the economy, the courts, etc.

Yeah but we got some true conservatives in Congress for a change.

Don't blame this problem on conservatives who refuse to rubber stamp these liberal policies of neo-cons. Blame the neo-cons. They are the ones hijacking the party. If conservatives can be counted on to go along, the neo-cons will never, ever change.

There are other things that can be done. The states can abolish the Federal government.

So, for all the reasons you cite, I should vote for a party that won't represent my interests in government and won't even pursue what their own party platform says they stand for.

Oh, by the way, you're right that the Libertarians couldn't get elected dog catcher...but that's mostly because of ballot access laws that the Republicans helped put in place. Thanks a lot, fellas. Way to work for the little guy.

Look, this framing of the debate with the Dems as the bad cop and the Republicans as the good cop just isn't going to work on me, all right? Peddle it to someone who's listening.

I have nothing but disrespect for anyone that cannot construct a good solid argument to re-elect Republicans other than waving the Nancy Pelosi flag and claiming they aren't Democrats.

But that's so much easier.

Good post BTW.

Okay, I'll play that analogy game.

Using your outline: You remind me of an easy, cheap, ugly, used up, cross-dressing "girl" who is trying to bully people into looking her way.

At a time when the islamo-facists are trying to take over the world? Now you are just being weird.

Since nobody else has bothered to answer this, maybe you can try: Name a Republican candidate, past or present, who agrees with you on ALL of your top 25 issues.

I understand where you are coming from, however, I believe it best to label stupid that which is stupid....I could be wrong, but I feel that doing so makes those who have such stupid ideas come to grips with just how foolish they are being.

Support for conservative positions is a loser.

Wrong.

Oh, I guarentee that is the message certain RINO's and Libs will try to spin. Just as they tried to spin Leiberman losing would mean the country had turned against the war. But it would be false and not take root.

THe fight to change the Republican party is during primaries, where you support the most conservative candidates you can.

Sounds nice, except the RNC chooses to interfere and use our funds and the GOTV effort effort against us in the primaries.

As for your statement of this not being a conservative nation? Would you consider Lindsey Graham as being from a conservative state? Yet he blocks judges, joins McCain on his protection of terrorists. Supports tax hikes on Social Security. Would you consider Daschle's state conservative? The only state who's legislature recently passed legislation banning abortion except in life of the mother? Yet it holds a Democrat Senator. Yours is the premise that is flawed. Theroetically we have enough states to hold a majority of conservative positions. Our problem traditionally is that people like Linds Graham get to Washington and decided they want favorable MSM coverage and sell out. That or the GOP doesn't challenge Dems in conservative states but goes all out for Liberals like Chafee. A prime example being Senator Byrd. A seat we could take, if they'd put effort into it as they did against Daschle.

The feeling of conservatives is that liberals are being disproportionately represented in D.C. I guess an analogy would be voter re-districting in Texas. Before Delay adjusted it it gave the Democrats disportionate representation in Congress, now it more accurately reflects the political leanings of the state. Conservatives bsiclly want the re-alignment that accurately reflects the conservative tilt of this ntion in the past decade, and thus far it hasn't come because of RINO's representation in soldi conservative states or the GOP not mounting strong challenges to Dems in conservative states.

Anyway, you've missed what was my basic premise. Which is that if you want conservative support you need to give them something to vote FOR rather then insult, blackmail or threaten. That means proving to conservatives the GOP can be forced to reverse course and I gave you examples of how to do that.

AMEN and AMEN....judicial appointments and REALIGNMENT of districts are REASON enough ALONE to not allow the enemies of our Constitution to prevail.

Seems to me that your own statements are a more than adequete description of your lack of inteligence.

The attitude you espouse was the same one that wanted to replace General George Washinton in the early years of the revolutionary war.

The same attitude and inteligence that wanted Abraham Lincholn to capitulate to the south and allow the confederacy to leave.

You are only being a useful idiot for the left by espousing their turn down the vote talking points. You and those who parrot the same DNC talking points, push the "parties are the same" and "party did nothing" in order to make people feel their vote is irrelevant.

Save your love fest for the clintons' efforts for the DUmies wake party. There are HUGE differences in the parties. (perhaps you don't believe in the moon landings or hold that the world is flat too based on your stellar analysis)

Voting this election is CRITICAL.

Voting for Republicans puts a death sentence on the Democrat party. SERIOUS death sentence because they have to win and win big to be considered a viable party.

Voting for Republicans also puts another nail in the Dinosaur media which has pushed the propaganda logic you espouse to push poll and turn down the vote.

I don't know you.
I don't care to know you.
I don't know any true conservative who in any way has said anything close to what your DNC talking points.

I know I will be voting, I know I will be taking friends and families to the poll, I know I will be working to make sure my circle is out there voting to put the USA first.

I have will not allow cheese eating surrender monkeys to stand unchallenged while they whine away trying to make the world as miserable as themselves.

Do something about the border, or forget ever again being the majority party.

Get over your one issue platform. You honestly think the libs are going to do anything about the border??? If you sit at home and don't vote....... you can forget about having any power for years.... this type of thinking makes me nuts!!!! VOTE REPUBLICAN.
