Good morning to all, I am watching Fox News Channel, and the Dow has crossed 12,000. As of this type, it is up 90.61 at 12,041.99. Of course, it is changing faster than I can type it, so I'll let those more qualified than me, keep up with it.

The MSM's reaction will be:

"All right people move along. Nothing to see here."

consumer prices down, tame inflation numbers. good news.

Jonah Goldberg had a great idea on The Corner yesterday - he said Tony Snow should arrange for the President to close the NYSE the day it closes at a record high - the MSM would be forced to cover the story.

It would be great if it reached 13,000 by election day. The strongest economy in 50 years!

I'm wondering if the market is anticipating a GOP victory. It certainly hasn't been acting like it would if the Dems were certain to win.

What's also encouraging is the S&P is moving also moving up.

I'm actually suprised that the market hasn't faltered on prospects for a dem takeover of the House. Some conventional wisdom thinks the market wants divided branches of gov't, but reversing Bush's tax cuts will slow the economy and the market should be pricing that in.
I expect a big selloff in early November if the polls still look the same.

Earlier this year, with the economy booming, the stock market doing well, and the job numbers excellent, the only thing the dems could use to put an ugly spin on everything was the high price of gasoline, for which they blamed George Bush. Now that gas is down from the mid 3's to the low 2's, there is nothing bad to pin on Bush, so the media just fails to cover it.

Notice we never get stories about people making a living as a day trader like we did in the Clinton years?

I may be mistaken but I think the dow likes dems. Seems like it goes up or at least it went up for Clinton during the bubble years.
But, I think the Dow has factored in the election.

Yeah, but I passed at least a dozen soup lines on my way to work this morning!I saw the same bunch. They were strumming guitars and singing updated Woody Guthrie songs: "I gotta drive a three year old Beamer/And my Momma can't afford one of them thin, flat TV's . . . O' Woe, O' Woe."
