"You are correct. I hadn't factored that into the equation. How can this be happening? I always thought we would progress into the future - not regress."

Most of us thought the same thing, figured what was behind the high *expectations* placed upon us was to help build the brave new world.
In hindsight a genuine study in what was considered "sanity v.s. insanity", one might say.

Today we're getting remakes of remakes outa Hollyweird & 30 year old "classic rock" songs, once the bedrock of a "cultural revolution", selling Fords, Chevy's, dish soap & dog food.

This has only been made possible by the superior youngsters produced over the past couple generations who're "in charge" today who haven't a clue when it comes to genuine "creativity", where originality's only a word & form without substance completely acceptable.
That's just the way it is.

"Human creativity seems to be at a low point right now. I think we're in the beginning stages of a new dark ages. I hate to be a pessimist about it."

When everything was so successfully dumbed-down, presumably to accommodate all visa vi hare brained schemes such as "inclusion" the die was struck.
I'm afraid this is what we all get now, gross banality.

FWIW if being a realist makes one pessimistic, so be it.
Self delusion has after all played no small part putting us where we find ourselves, today.

...~eh?

Mt daughter and her 18 year old cousin recently attended a Halloween party. Their costumes were, IMHO, quite conservative; one dressed in O.R. garb (I'll leave to you to guess which one) and the other dressed in a '50s era skirt, blouse, sweater & hair (think "Happy Days").

When I inquired about her evening the next day, her comment to me was they were the only girls who were "dressed". She spoke with wide-eyed incredulity describing the costumes worn by the other 'women' attending the affair. Apparently the 'slut' & 'hooker' look was very popular; the costumes worn by the other girls transgressed well beyond risque.

The interesting irony is that the conservative nature of my daughter's and niece's costumes made them stand out amongst the crowd so much they both won the contest for the best costumes at the party.

Good point and one is inclined to suspect the gummint skools are a mighty force behind this anomaly. Instead of producing future generations of youngsters that can think and act on their own, they are producing good little followers. Ever take a look at even a grade school curriculum? NO free time to speak of. NO time to socialize. NO time to do what kids are prone to do....blow off steam in a manner they choose. Everything is regimented from the time they walk in the doors til the time they leave(and afterward in many cases). They aren't encouraged to do anything on their own. Following the rules is what they are being trained to do.

Question is, how has this contributed to the unusual and unacceptable behavior when on free time? Best guess; parental authority, even from those that still want to exercise it, has been usurped by the state. The state, as we've observed in socialist nations, is not very good at raising kids, or controlling markets, or creating jobs, or building homes, or.........

When a society ceases, for whatever reasons, to run and police itself, it's the beginning of the end. So call a lawyer...
