In an election for Attorney General of Kansas today, 10/16/06, Democratic challenger Paul Morrison defeats Republican incumbent Phill Kline, 56% to 43%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KCTV-TV Kansas City and KWCH-TV Wichita. Since an identical SurveyUSA poll 9/14/06, Kline has lost 8 points and Morrison has gained 8 points. Morrison had trailed by 3, now leads by 13. All the movement is among Republicans: Kline leads 2:1 among Republicans, down from a 4:1 lead last month. Morrison gets 87% of Democrat votes, down from 89%. 62% of Independents vote for the Democrat Morrison, up 1 point. Morrison leads by 23 points among women and by 1 point among men. Kline is tied with Morrison in Western KS, down from a 28-point lead on 9/14/06. Kline had led by 20 in the Wichita metro area, now trails by 15 there, a 35-point swing. In Eastern KS, which includes Kansas City, Morrison wins by 16 points, up from 13 points. The election is in 22 days, on 11/7/06.

The original title reads "Democrat Morrison Ousts Incumbent Kline for Kansas Attorney General." I thought that was a bit premature and misleading.

The results are still a bit of a shock though.

Apparently the Kline camp must of had some bad polling results, cause they held a news conference yesterday, trying to help themselves in dragging up an old 'scandal' against Morrison, from the early 1990's, as reason to vote for Kline.

This apparently has not helped the Kline camp cause Morrison was formerly a republican and what the Kline camp did has this unseemly smell about it.

This accusation by Kline is just the most lame brain thing I've ever heard of. Even solid conservatives I know are breaking for Morrison.

Kline was always going to be a target in 2006 if for no other reason that his weak showing in 2002. He beat a completely unfunded, unknown, small county Democrat by about 4200 votes. But Morrison is his worst nightmare come true. Ex-Republican moderate, county prosecutor, and a boatload of money. Morrison will take Douglas County and Wyandotte County going away. All he needs is to take about 55% of the vote in Johnson County and he has the election sewn up. If these poll results are anywhere near accurate then it looks like he won't have a problem doing that.

The local talkers on the radio yesterday afternoon, both of which claim to be republican, were aghast over the out of nowhere mush thrown out from the press conference.

Morrison went on their show, but apparently the Kline camp said Kline was not available, so they had the local republican face on to back up the Kline claims.

I must say, (I live in MO, so the election does not affect my voting) it was one of those very strange head shaking times, wondering who decided to carry out this act of desperation. The result does not appear to have been worth the effort, cause whatever future political office Kline ever aspires to run for, this incident will stay with voters.

Survey USA has been up to 12 points higher for dims than zog or Ras. Seems they are the only ones quoted by the dbm. You think there may be a reason for that? I'm just sayin'!

"What's the matter with Kansas" indeed. I don't know much about this AG race but it is unfortunate the liberal Democrat governor is bound for re-election. Opposes the death penalty because of her Catholic faith, she says. What a laugh since of course she is 100% pro abortion.

I was angered that Sebelius was elected in '02 running on her anti death penalty plank as those 2 scumbags were on trial for their Dec 2000 carjack/rape/killing spree in Wichita. As I recall, Kline is pro DP. I know nothing about his opponent though.

Yes, but what I stated was true regardless of outcome. DeWine is up 1 in Rasmussen's poll, down two in zogs poll, and down 11 in Survey USA. Who is closest to being correct? I don't know, but I can read odds.

This is absolutely stunning.

I would say hogwash, but the polls are massively apart. I can't believe this is so biased that it would lead to Kline actualy leading instead of trailing.

Then again, look at Kline v. Morrison.

Who looks tougher. Clearly Morrison. The guy frankly is intimidating. The fact that he is a prosecutor and his physical lookmay be enough to put him over the edge.

I have my doubts that Kline is down by 13 points. But whether or not he's down by 13 or down by 1 he still could be down. And Morrison has the momentum.

Kline's latest stunt shows just how desperate his campaign is. A fifteen year old harassment alegation which was thrown out of court? That's the best that they can do???? It's all over but the shouting.

On the other hand I have a scheme that might just pull things out. I was watching the Bears game with a friend last night. With about 7 minutes left and the Bears down by 20 he went home for the night. In the space of less than 3 minutes of game time the Bears score 21 points and go on to win. I think I'll take him to the Paul Morrison or Dennis Moore campaign paty on election night. We can drink their free beer and have my buddy put a hex on the Democrat and win that way.

And that, honestly, is the only way I see either Morrison or Moore losing.

Just sickening. Kline is the only bright spot at the state level in KS politics.

This is very alarming, particularly in view of the fact that Jim Barnett is within striking distance of Kathleen Selebius.

Clearly the treacherous KS RINO party is repaying the real Republican AG by supporting the RINO traitor turned rodent running for the office (as is the rodent Lt Gov nominee, another traitor). Kline is the only bulwark against the Gilligan-Sebelius regime.

I'm not surprised by this, hate to say. Paul Morrison has been on TV constantly telling lies about Phill Kline. And I'm not just calling them lies. A college professor in a newspaper article was quoted as saying Morrison is lying about Kline. I have seen only one Phill Kline commercial, but I don't watch the news very much.

Just today I got a message on my machine urging me to vote for Kathleen Sebelius and Paul Morrison because they will protect me from Phill Kline's search to view my private medical records. It's just disgusting.

"Kline is the only bulwark against the Gilligan-Sebelius regime."

Not if Kathleen Selebius is unseated this year.

The allegation wasn't thrown out of court. I rather like this site, so here's my link. Free State Media

Not sure yet what I think of the press conference. I hope Kline pulls it off.
