A new Rasmussen Research Poll shows Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger leading state Treasurer Phil Angelides by 9 percentage points, campaign sources said. Other recent polls, including the L.A. Times survey, have shown Schwarzenegger as much as 17 points ahead of Angelides.

The new poll — taken last Tuesday and Wednesday — has Republican Schwarzenegger with 49% of those surveyed compared to 40% for Democrat Angelides. Seven percent said they were undecided, and 5% had picked another candidate. The Rasmussen poll surveyed 500 likely voters.

(snip)

In total, 57% of those surveyed had a favorable view of the governor, compared to 44% for Angelides. As for the negatives, 42% of those surveyed had an unfavorable view of Schwarzenegger, while 53% disliked Angelides.

This site was linked from Weintraub's weblog. It is kind of cool. If you don't know where the candidates stand on your favorite issues, take a quiz based on about 5 questions and it will tell you which candidate most closely resembles your priorities. The site is So Cal Public Radio (scpr.org). Weintraub warned that the quiz had not been "dumbed down."

I don't know what the max # of points a candidate could get, but these were my results.

Art Olivier 11.0
Arnold Schwarzenegger 3.0
Phil Angelides 0.0
Peter Miguel Camejo 0.0
Janice Jordan 0.0

I wonder if this poll is oversampling Dems like most of the other ones are?

Oliver 11
Noonan 9
Austrian 6
Comejo 1
Jordan 1
Weasel 0

Weintraub was correct

Why Noonan 9 or Austrian 6? Maybe reading the questions would help?

Arnold Schwarzenegger 3.0
Phil Angelides 0.0

Olivier 6.0
Arnold 4.0

There were some trick questions... back to school for you, young man!

Oops. Your correction means Olivier wasn't on top for us both. For me, Olivier (6.0) was top, Noonan (5.0) second, then Arnold (4.0).

Nope... I somehow missed Noonan in the cut and pasting. I corrected mine, above.

Good quiz, many of the policy solutions I would prefer aren't on the list. I ended up picking from among bad options and wound up with a result with which I would probably not agree on many key points.

I agree... not the greatest questions, but I think they were trying to cover a vast ground.

Your results were interesting--15 was the highest number so far for any candidate.

I think I'll try to take it and answer as a socialist or greenie and see what happens, lol.

Well, that was fun! LOL
I tried to be the biggest leftwing whackjob I could imagine in answering the questions. And everything was "very important" to me (which I think drives the biggest numbers)
Janice Jordan 18.0
Phil Angelides 12.0
Peter Miguel Camejo 9.0
Arnold Schwarzenegger 6.0
Edward C. Noonan 0.0
Art Olivier 0.0

Most telling that you get a higher 'Arnold score' when you go leftist.

Point made.

Zogby nailed 1996, then fell into disrepute as his polling results in subsequent elections were wide of the mark. Rasmussen nailed 2004. This could be the election year he's found to be way off the mark.

Arnold's lead is making downticket races more competitive and in several, the R candidate has a chance of actually winning.
