I have to admit I don't understand why they didn't make better use of the maple trees.
Costly? Maple syrup and candy is pretty expensive.

Maple syrup is only expensive because very few people make it now.
90 years ago maple trees could have been a North American sugar cane.

LOL. Sometimes my son will go out and I'll ask him to bring some chocolate back. "There're treats in the house." he complains, not wanting to spend that big 89 cents on his mom.
"But they aren't chocolate!" I protest. I don't think he gets that nothing takes the place of chocolate when that's what you crave.
For a while I was taking a medication that affected the taste of the 2 things I love most - diet Pepsi and chocolate. I wondered how I could get so many bad sodas and candy until I read online that this was a common side effect. Thank goodness I don't take it anymore.
The good news is ... it's October 16th and Halloween candy has been on sale for almost a month now.
We've had time to buy our Trick or Treat candy "for all the little Trick-or-Treaters" and then replace it 3-4 times! I just hate unwrapping all those tiny snack-size packages, lol.
Think of the poor children who will get Bit-O-Honeys and peanut butter taffy kisses - not to mention those candycorn-like tiny pumpkins or blecch, popcorn balls.

I smell a conspiracy, events like this don't just happen. Manipulation of such an indispensable commodity at this strategic moment can not be overlooked. Let us not be naive, yes girls, Carl Rove is behind this strike in a desperate effort to distract the nation's attention from the Foley affair. Who could possibly care about depraved e-mails when one of life's essentials is threatened. One week before the election Bush annouce his plan to deal with the crisis, details of the plan will be somewhat obscure, but he will look like a leader and looks are what counts on election days.
Wait - wait on second thought - its the democrats, that dastardly Soros guy (I think his name has an "h" in it somewhere but couldn't figure out where) In a calculated effort to clinch the midterms, commercials will run in closely contested congressional contest blaming Bush by blasting his in ineffective leadership in maintaining a cheap and abundant supply of a national necessity....yes that's it.....then when the dems take control of the house and senate... the strike will be quickly resolved and chocolate prices and supply will return to normal. Anxiety will cease, nerves will be balmed. Democrats score a magnificent leadership victory for a grateful of 51% of the populace, thus setting them up for a presidential win in '08.
