Civil Rights Lawyer Sentenced to 28 Months (Lynne Stewart)
WINS News ^ | 10/16/06

NEW YORK -- Civil rights lawyer Lynne Stewart was sentenced to 28 months in prison in federal court in Manhattan Monday. She was convicted of providing support to terrorists by helping a jailed Egyptian sheik communicate with his followers on the outside.

Before sentencing, her lawyer told the judge that any prison sentence for Stewart would be a death sentence because of her serious health problems.

Stewart pleaded with the judge to allow her to live out the rest of her life "productively, lovingly, righteously.''

Assistant US Attorney Andrew Dember rejected defense suggestions that Stewart's conduct was judged differently after
9-11.

"This case had nothing to do with September 11,'' Dember told the judge. "What she was doing was smuggling terrorism messages and smuggling out Abdel-Rahman's responses.''

When Stewart arrived at the courthouse this morning, about 150 supporters chanted "Free Lynne, Free Lynne.''

Federal prosecutors say she had released a statement by Omar Abdel-Rahman, a blind sheik sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted in plots to blow up five New York landmarks and assassinate Egypt's president.

"I don't know where you guys are coming up with this 10 month idea. She has no grounds for appeal since her sentence was such a drastic departure downward. The government will appeal and win, and her sentence will likely be longer than her remaining life."

Breast cancer is, thankfully, no longer the death sentence it once was. She could live long enough to assist other terrorists and perhaps realize her dream of participating in the murder of innocent Americans.

Having read post #125, I contend the government has nothing on which to base an appeal of this sentence, without any maximum minimum sentence outlined in the sentencing guidelines for this crime. The defendent, on the other hand, can manufacture a Constitutional technicality to support her appeal.

In any case, the clinton appointed sentencing judge should be removed from the bench for this miscarriage of justice, IMHO and the convicted defendent should be taken forthwith to a jail cell. She should never be allowed to practice law again.

I just read in the Manchester paper today, a man getting 9 years for possessing crack cocaine (50 grams). If he got 9 years this woman should get 90. A slap on the wrist for aiding and abetting a know terrorist.

I try to listen to WABC in the morning before work - I can barely tolerate that Kuby. Of course, he is pulling for the corrupt Menendez to win in NJ because Menendez is another lib appeaser and it is DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!! But back to Stewart: I know somebody who knew her mother and he told me that she was not as crazy as the daughter.

I hope this joke of a sentence fires up Republicans to come out and vote.

It's strange - Kuby can be appealing as long as he's not talking politics. I've heard Mark Simone get him *real* good - one time Kuby nearly hit the ceiling!

Jersey is about as lost a cause as NY. That's not going to stop me from voting, however.

But back to Stewart: I know somebody who knew her mother and he told me that she was not as crazy as the daughter.

I believe you!

"I believe her law license was already suspended."

Thanks, Julie. I wish it had been rescinded.

Kuby hung up on me once when I got him on how liberals support abortion for minority babies and are therefore racists! Stewart is a terrible person and the GOP had better use this in campaigns - a Clinton appointed judge.

She might permanently lose it now. I hope she goes deeeeep into retirement. A friend, a big lib, unfortunately, heard her speak at an anti-war rally. I am forever teasing him about it. I can imagine what Stewart was saying. "No oil, for blood . . . Bush lied, aaarrgggh".

I know this is off topic, but I am praying that Jersans wake up. (I was born there.)

You were right, and he couldn't handle it. That's why I loved it when Simone got to him. Kuby was trapped in the studio and couldn't run away from the truth. Mark was so easy going and cordial, and Kuby was FUMING! Mark's answers just rolled right out - very quickly, too. I laughed my head off, and felt so vindicated. :o)

Stewart is a terrible person and the GOP had better use this in campaigns - a Clinton appointed judge.

That's an excellent idea, and if they don't, they're comatose.

Conservatives had better think about THE JUDGES and vote accordingly! When I read about "conservatives" endorsing libs to "teach the GOP a lesson", I think, how foolish - they will be cutting off their noses to spite their faces. Think about the 9th Circuit in California! Kuby is thinskinned when he is proven wrong and Mark Simone never loses his cool. (Even with Crazy Jim).

"No oil for blood"

You're probably right. The party of "ideas" has been spouting the same mantra for years. I'll bet she remembers the words to all the protest songs from the late 60's and 70's too.

Then she can sing them in prison - if she isn't given house arrest!

I thought Kuby condemned what this pig did? I swear I thought I heard him say that although he liked "Lynne", he disagreed with her actions. Maybe I dreamed it!

The way I heard it was that although he didn't approve of what she did, he was absolutely gushing that "mercy and justice" were served by the sentence she received.

It really got me sick.
