NEW YORK -- Civil rights lawyer Lynne Stewart was sentenced to 28 months in prison in federal court in Manhattan Monday. She was convicted of providing support to terrorists by helping a jailed Egyptian sheik communicate with his followers on the outside.
Before sentencing, her lawyer told the judge that any prison sentence for Stewart would be a death sentence because of her serious health problems.
Stewart pleaded with the judge to allow her to live out the rest of her life "productively, lovingly, righteously.''
Assistant US Attorney Andrew Dember rejected defense suggestions that Stewart's conduct was judged differently after
9-11.
"This case had nothing to do with September 11,'' Dember told the judge. "What she was doing was smuggling terrorism messages and smuggling out Abdel-Rahman's responses.''
When Stewart arrived at the courthouse this morning, about 150 supporters chanted "Free Lynne, Free Lynne.''
Federal prosecutors say she had released a statement by Omar Abdel-Rahman, a blind sheik sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted in plots to blow up five New York landmarks and assassinate Egypt's president.

If the liberals don't kill us...liberal judges will. This is a travesty the woman gave info from a terrorist to his henchmen on the outside.
Hopefully the prison is better at meting out punishment than this judge was.

I agree she should have gotten at least 20 years or more. I'll find out who the judge was.

Stewart pleaded with the judge to allow her to live out the rest of her life "productively, lovingly, righteously.'' If I were the judge, I'd have doubled the sentence right then and there.

If it's 28 months, she'll be out in 10, less time already served, make that about 6 months.
Not bad for basically committing treason.
To: areafiftyone
Hopefully her self imposed death sentence will come to be.
Somehow I doubt it. A sweet book deal will probably follow.

WHO CARES if she was judged differently because of 9/11? I HOPE she was! A lot of things have changed since 9/11, but a lot of things that should have changed have stayed the same.

No doubt the judge in the case was probably appointed by Clinton or Carter. Five years after 9/11 and this happens.

allow her to live out the rest of her life "productively, lovingly, righteously.'' She can do that all in prison as he does pro bono work filing frivolous lawsuits for other convicted scum.
