Does anyone have a REAL solution to this problem that doesn't involve socialism???

Yes. Do not have babies until you are very comfortable financially and have the skills and experience to stay that way. Shut down the public schools -- which are increasingly being paid for by people who wouldn't dream of sending their own kids to one -- and stop giving people a free place to warehouse kids that they can't afford educate and therefore shouldn't have. Comfortable house should be owned free and clear before any babies. When people who don't have a spare $20,000 a year over and above what they need to live comfortably and save for retirement, go ahead and start having babies, they have just jumped into socialism with both feet, because that's what OTHER people are being forced to shell out to operate schools for EACH of your kids.

We homeschool, so you aren't paying for my children.

My husband used to make enough for us to live comfortably, but for some reason wages within the tool & die trade have not kept up with cost of living.

And no-one, even if you plan well, can account for situations like my husband and I have faced over the last 15 years. As the saying goes Sh*t happens, and sometimes even the most responsible of people can find themselves in unwanted situations.

As for the rest of your suggestions I do understand what you are saying about waiting to have children and such. There are many in society who don't give a thought to things before it is too late...

All of that still doesn't account for the fact that there are greedy people out there who pay themselves far more than what their work is worth.

Oh, and making $20,000/year above the cost of living is a bit extreme. How much do you suppose the average cost of living is? What jobs pay such wages, even with a degree? If you are proposing that everyone wait to have children until they reach that level then IMHO we will be sacked with children who need a lot of medical attention due to increases in Down's syndrome and other such illnesses associated with older parenting.

Can you explain please how a family back in the 50s could survive on one income - perhaps someone working at the local hardware store, but now the average family must have two workers?

Well, crap! I thought we were supposed to be outbreeding the Muslims?

Seriously though, this is a pipe dream.

Regarding your post #60,You hit it right on the head. I grew up very poor and realized early that if I was gonna accumalate wealth, a large family was not gonna be part of the plan. Still, for the last ten years, I have had to take care of my mother after my stepfather died leaving her penniless and my younger stepbrother whose " gay " lifestyle left him terminally ill and indigent. I accept this responsibility for what it is and do the best I can.

Socialism is not the answer to anything. Freedom to decide how you are going to live your life is the key. She should thank God Almighty that she lives in America.

And to the poster who said I needed a new accountant, if you knew what the gross was that I paid the 123k in taxes on, you'd be asking me for his phone number.
