" ..... so they dont leech off us Gen. Xers."

I paid 123k in taxes last year. I've paid the max on SS taxes for the last 29 years. I've been working since I was 14. I'll be 62 in 4 years and plan on retiring then and I WONT need a part time job.

Who the f**k are you calling a leech, Boy?

If you can afford to pay that much in taxes why do you need your social security check? I WISH we had that much to pay in taxes. I wonder how much your employees take home...

And yes, I am a bitter Gen X'er who's sick to death of people making their money off the backs of people like my husband and I and then bitch about it... Actually I'd like to see Social Security completely scrapped, and a little more societal pressure on the rich (NOT GOVT PRESSURE, mind you) to be a little more generous to those working under them... There is a huge division between "classes" of workers.

And yes I know I sound like a socialist, but that's the system we're living with and in right now. Perhaps if people shared more of their wealth as a matter of principle people on the left wouldn't be so gung-ho on taxing people to death...

Like you said, you've paid the max and make enough to live comfortably while the rest of us pay what we can and live check to check despite degrees and working our butts off on a daily basis...

Does anyone have a REAL solution to this problem that doesn't involve socialism??? Seriously I'd like to know because this is what is making socialism attractive to those in my generation and younger who don't see the danger inherent in that system...

You need a better accountant!

I've paid the max on SS taxes for the last 29 years.

I've paid the max on SS taxes for 15 years.  The difference is that my first 15 years of paying into the SS ponzi scheme was more than double the rate of your first 15 years.  And in fact, my next 15 years are likely to only go up from here.

I've been working since I was 14.

I started delivering morning newspapers when I was 12.  At 16, I started working as a stock boy in a supermarket and paying taxes and union dues!

I'll be 62 in 4 years and plan on retiring then and I WONT need a part time job

At 20 years your junior I look to the future and see that it's unlikely that I'll ever be able to retire.  During the Boomer's greatest earning years, there were 6 people working for every person retired.  When I get to retirement age, there will be 2 workers for every retiree.  This is due to Baby Boomers aborting their children and because medical science has greatly expanded the average life expectancy of people.  However, the government hasn't changed the retirement age since the whole scheme started.  In fact, the people who qualify for SS goes way beyond what even FDR had in mind!

It's great that you've prepared but don't be surprised if the government comes looking to tax your nest egg in 15 years because a majority of your fellow Boomers did not prepare for living as long as they will.

Who the f**k are you calling a leech, Boy?

Intergenerational bickering is not just a hobby, it's a profession!
