October 15, 2006 Op-Ed Columnist The Gay Old Party Comes Out
By FRANK RICH Heres a gay Republican story you probably did not hear last week. On Tuesday a card-carrying homosexual, Mark Dybul, was sworn into office at the State Department with his partner holding the Bible. Dr. Dybul, was flanked by Laura Bush and Condi Rice. In her official remarks, the secretary of state referred to the mother of Dr. Dybuls partner as his mother-in-law.
If anything good has come out of the Foley scandal, it is surely this: The revelation that the political party fond of demonizing homosexuals each election year is as well-stocked with trusted and accomplished gay leaders as virtually every other power center in America. Across the board gay people are in leadership positions. Yet it is this same partys Congressional leadership that in 2006 did almost nothing about government spending, Iraq, immigration or ethics reform, but did drop everything to focus on a doomed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
The split between the Republicans outward homophobia and inner gayness isnt just hypocrisy; its pathology. Take the bizarre case of Karl Rove. Every one of his Bush campaigns has been marked by a dirty dealing of the gay card, dating back to the lesbian whispers that pursued Ann Richards when Mr. Bush ousted her as Texas governor in 1994. Yet we now learn from The Architect, the recent book by the Texas journalists James Moore and Wayne Slater, that Mr. Roves own (and beloved) adoptive father, Louis Rove, was openly gay in the years before his death in 2004. This will be a future case study for psychiatric clinicians as well as historians.

Frank Rich is a DEVIL....a GAY DEVIL.
He was dating Maureen Dowd until Maureen told him that she preferred men.
just an enabled Clintoid
He wanted to be MONICA!!
The Republicans don't hate gays--we just don't push their agenda. Why is that so damned hard for Frankie to understand? Where is the hypocrisy in having a gay man sworn in with his partner present--how would the administration know or care about him having a partner? Wouldn't Frankie be crying like a bitch if he found out the administration canned this guy (so to speak) upon discovering this?
The pathology is with widdle Frankie and the democrats who actively push the gay agenda, and then try to win an election by demanding a gay congressman's IMs be monitored by the congressional leadership, and who use that congressman's gay behavior to scare people into voting out Republicans. Explain that one Frankie, you ignorant loon. Now go play some shotunes, you former drama critic, you.
Liberals don't get it. Opposing Affirmative Action has nothing to do with racism. Closing the border is not anti-immigrant. And opposing the Gay Rights Agenda and protecting marriage is not about hurting gays.
The revelation that the political party fond of demonizing homosexuals each election year is as well-stocked with trusted and accomplished gay leaders as virtually every other power center in America.
How trite. Republicans have not "demonized" gays; they have said they were not for gay "marriage". Gay unions? Domestic Partnership umbrella laws, yes. But marriage? So, marriage is to gays like abortion is to the feminists? The core altar of their "modus"?
How nifty of Frank to make that clear: That only gays demanding marriage are the *real* gays; everyone else is fluff! Gays cannot work alongside us UNLESS we all agree to alter every culture in the world to accommodate "gay marriage". Gays cannot be our friends if we disagree with "gay marriage". Gays cannot be allowed anywhere unless we pay homage and host to "gay marriage".
I think I'd rather watch frank rich, live, hold his breath until he turns blue. Then, all of us who share concensus reality can have an easy laugh together.
Hilarious. Libs can't seem to get their head around the fact that one can oppose homosexuality and at the same time not hate or mistreat homosexuals.
Coming from the Times' former theater critic...that's comedy.
Just part of the only strategy the left has: suppress turnout.
Rich DOES love the gutter, doesn't he ?
It ain't Denise Rich! (pictures optional;)
I suspect I know why Frank is so fabulously thrilled by this.
Item: Is It A Crime To Hate Gays???
This Frank Rich just sounds like Another Weep-O-Crat to me.
I don't want special rights for anyone, therefore, I must hate all of humanity, pets, animals, and small household applicances.
Damn, how did I manage to make the baseball team, become a National Merit Scholar, get a Master's Degree, marry, have children, and earn a national award in my current profession by hating everything in sight?
More proof why Rice is not a true conservative. It always starts with the abortion question, then you learn they are pro gay, then you learn they are environmentalist, then you learn their brand of fiscal conservatism is full of gaps and loopholes.
No thanks there's only one kind of conservative, and she's not it.
