Rebuttal to Linda McQuaig's latest, and an attempt to counter her extreme views.

Key point of the whole thing is "get the better of someone in the divorce settlement".

Welcome to the Brave New World. Tell us sweetie, what happens to the "soldiers" in wartime when captured?

The author might not know it, but men like to coddle women because they are soft and smell nice.

Fems are self contradictory... they complain of the "isolation of woman" in a "married 'coddled' environment", and basicaly get an "isolative" social genocide in exchange... forgotten, without kids nor any legacy but complaining.

I am utterly gobsmacked that this made it to press in the Toronto STAR!

I would posit that in nearly every divorced - at least where I live - the woman gets "the better of someone." The typical "roadhouse divorce."

The two of you may have a valid point about women screwing the man during the divorce. However, it is not always that way. My husband of fifteen years had and affair and left me for a "really fun", thrice divorced woman he met at a bar. It was a devastating experience for me.
I, however, did not fight for his money or possessions. I chose to agree with him regarding joint custody of our children, because I feel that it is important for the kids to see him as often as possible. Regardless of the fact that he is an imbecile and that the entire situation was very hurtful, I was more interested in the welfare of my children than what I could "get".
Everyone, including his own family members, thought I was crazy and encouraged me to fight for alimony, child support, etc. I am a grown woman with a good job and didn't need to get even with him.
I don't regret my decision to make the divorce painless and free from drama and fighting.

I would love to be the judge in most of those divorces.
I would put the children into the house. The parents would circulate. Both would pay equal child support, and share house payments. This easy come, easy go life style would come to a halt until the children were out of high school.
I reckon that there would be some of them sit out time in jail for contempt of court before it was over, but that's life sometimes. My decisions wouldnt be gender specific.
I was working on a school project last week and we were informed that 65% of the kids in the middle school were from single parent-latch key homes. No wonder they have no values.

Perhaps I should be asking forgiveness that it DID work? My sincere apologies, especially to those on dialup, as I forgot to resize the images.

I've never been divorced but I know of one poor bastard who was and who got taken to the cleaners.
He was a top executive of a large firm and worked his butt off for years, rising before the rooster even cocked an eye open, and worked until 8:00 or 9:00 at night.
He received a hefty retirement and with his children college-educated and grown, his wife took 2/3rds of his wealth. Two-thirds!!
Try to convince me of the fairness of our divorce laws, just dare.
To: SaltyJoe
Damn. I haven't been coddled in ages.
