Across the country, Republicans are taking a beating: President Bush is at historic lows in public opinion polls, the war in Iraq has lost favor with voters, and the party is dealing with the latest in a series of ethics scandals that have Republicans staring at the prospects of losing control of Congress.
Yet, oddly enough, in California it may be Democrats who have the most reason to fear Election Day. Not only does their gubernatorial candidate, Phil Angelides, trail Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger heavily in the polls, but there is growing concern that if Angelides does not inspire Democrats to vote, low party turnout could seal the fate of other vulnerable Democrats and even left-leaning ballot propositions.
Recent polls have shown Republicans have a shot at winning a number of "down-ballot" races, including secretary of state, insurance commissionerand even lieutenant governor, where each candidate has put himself in position to take advantage of any Schwarzenegger coattail effect.
Nonetheless, Democrats remain confident that the national tide will rescue Angelides and other statewide candidates. Democrats would not necessarily come out to vote for Angelides, but against Republicans. And, they hope, disillusioned Republicans may stay home.
A survey last month by the Public Policy Institute of California taken before the Congressional page scandal showed that 44 percent of Republicans lack enthusiasm about voting, compared with 38 percent of Democrats.

That's where Arnold picked up his talking points on the purported need for a "sensible" plan for the war,
Typical DICC, you didn't watch the debate to see for yourself, but take the MSM's lies as gospel.
Are these the talking points you received from Angelides for today, try to turn conservatives against Arnold, by telling them ( however untrue) that Arnold bashed Bush, didn't stand up for Rumsfeld and has the same p9olicy on Iraq as the Dems. ALL OF WHICH ARE LIES, being perpetrated by the Dems, to implement their win strategy, to get Republicans to stay home -- REMEMBER, THAT WAS WHAT THIS ARTICLE WAS ABOUT.
You are just providing the illustration.
BTTT!
Grasping at straws.
Cut the trite name calling DL. It is most unbecoming.
==== THAT is exactly what you are trying to do, to get Republicans to stay home.
Another direct hit!!! This is more fun than a game of "battleship!"
You mean like Mountjoy?
Arnold is very clever, unlike some posters here, who keep agitating against Arnold, and think others won't notice that they are trying to help Angelides.
Silly DICCs.
The win at all costs brigade is an easy target. Honesty matters not.
I would never, ever vote for Jerry Brown...
But, I will say one thing about him... he has table manners unlike the rest of the Democrats.
If a bunch of Democrats ever came to my house for dinner (which is unlikely as hell), Jerry Brown is the only one that I would let eat at the table... the rest would eat with the dogs...
"If I like someone, absolutely," the Republican governor said in response to a reporter's question at a campaign event in Antioch if he might back a Democrat in the spirit of bipartisanship he has attempted to engender in Sacramento.
So now you are defending the MSM?
And you expect us to buy into the myth, that you are a conservative?
Someone tell me, what kind of conservative believes everything the MSM says as gospel and what conservative wants to have socialist leftist Dems win?
The answer is that anyone who behaves this way is NO CONSERVATIVE. PERIOD.
When it walks like a DICC and squakes like a DICC, it ain't no real conservative.
DICC= Democrat In Conservative's Clothing.
See post 9, 44, and 51.
Absolutely, BLATANTLY WRONG!!!
I want everyone to get out and vote--AGAINST the TAXES, AGAINST the BONDS, and AGAINST the LIBERALS!!!
No, simply giving them more credibilty than you. Which isn't much.
But aren't Arnold supported bonds just free money?
You still can't bear to actually say "VOTE STRAIGHT REPUBLICAN TICKET", can you.
You keep dodging to the left, and attacking Arnold, despite Tom McClintock's plea for conservatives to vote Straight Republican ticket and support the Governor's reelection.
You just keep trying to demoralize conservatives and desrput thread that encourage Republicans to get out the vote..
You agitated for the Dem position, and admitted to voting WITH THE DEMS AND UNIONS, against Arnold's Reform Proposition for limiting spending.
Angelides has now turned to running against Nixon in his latest ads. It's silly.
Actually, I am relying on personally watching the show (which just happens to pretty much line up with what the MSM reported).
Who should we believe? The FairOpinion Press?
LOS ANGELES--Fair Opinion Press has reported that Conservative Wunderkind, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and complimented President Bush and praised Secretary Rumsfeld for the fine job they are doing in defending the nation against terrorism. When asked by Leno if Rumsfeld should be fired, Schwarzenegger strongly replied "NO! I have total and complete faith in our President and his administration and support him in doing the right thing."
