Fire damages oil refinery in Lithuania

By LIUDAS DAPKUS, Associated Press Writer 8 minutes ago

VILNIUS, Lithuania - Fire broke out at Lithuania‘s only oil refinery Thursday, causing millions of dollars in damage and forcing the evacuation of all its workers, officials said. No injuries were reported.

"The fire is still burning, but we can say now that no one has been injured," said Saulius Vorauskas, an official at the refinery, which was sold to Poland‘s PKN Orlen.

Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas said the damage was significant.

Prosecutors launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.

Russia‘s Yukos recently sold a majority stake in the refinery to PKN Orlen for $2.3 billion in a deal that included a 30 percent stake belonging to the Lithuanian government. The deal has yet to be approved by the European Commission .

At the end of July, Russia ceased supplying the refinery with oil after pipeline damage was discovered on a spur in Belarus, which the pipe crosses before reaching Lithuania. Russian officials have since declined to say when supplies would be renewed, citing costly repairs.

This is what happens when you are courageous enough to speak out against tyranny, and on behalf of those who are suffering under it.

God Bless the Lithuanian leadership.

When will Russia stop her childish and destructive behavior toward others?

Lithuania PM fears PKN may drop refinery after fire

And that was probably the goal of those, who caused the "accident".

Well, suspicious to say the least. The Lithuanians could do well by introducing strict security measures on all strategic installations, if they haven't done so already. One could start with checking the workforce.

Oh that is sickening.

Looks like the Lithuanians did not deport enough Russian spies/saboteurs.

Russian pipeline rupture hitting Belarus: Report

"The Kommersant newspaper cited unnamed oil experts as saying that Russian authorities were using the problems on the Druzhba pipeline as a lever to put pressure on Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko in an ongoing gas price dispute."

I wonder if we will see Belarus someday where Georgia is today.
