The Rodney Dangerfield joke that I like is very similar to yours in it's start:
Rodney's Doc: "I have your test results, and I've got some bad news and some REALLY bad news."
Rodney:"Well, what's the bad news??"
Doc: "You only have 24 hours to live !!"
Rodney: "GEEZZZZ, what's the REALLY bad news??"
Doc: "I couldn't get a hold of you YESTERDAY !!"
