I checked for this article, and didn't find it. If it's a duplicate, my apologies in advance.

Yeah, right. Since most of rural MD goes GOP, Reps are racists. Steele may gain votes from black racists who won't vote for a white candidate.

Of course, it is only racist Republicans that would not vote for Steele. As we all know, there are no racist Democrats. (cough, cough)

Residents in Western Maryland and on the Eastern Shore say there are many whites among them who will not vote for a black candidate, such as Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele, who is running for the U.S. Senate.

LOL!

Vote for our candidate or you're racist!

How lame can you get?

-------

Why someone votes or doesn't vote for a particular person is immaterial. I don't think voting or not voting on someone based on their skin color is any worse than voting for someone because they are attractive or not voting for someone because their ugly..

Reminds me of Bobby Jindal's campaign for governor of Louisiana.

And to all those "Republicans" who won't vote for Steele... think about how things might have been different if Jindal had been in office during Hurricane Katrina rather than that incompetent Democrat governor!

On the other hand his opponent is a Jew. What a quandary! So does this mean the Southern racists will sit on their hands? I doubt it. Many of them will vote a straight Republican ticket. They may know that Bob Ehrlich is a strong supporter of Maryland agriculture.

If Steele is defeated it will be because of Baltimore and insane Montgomery County. Liberals in Montgomery, Jew or gentile, black or white, will not vote for Steele.

And O'Malley will be elected governor. It's a very sad time for Maryland.

These anti-Steele voters are incredibly stupid.

Thee may be some of this -- but how many blacks who would normally vote Demo will refuse to vote against a black man and will stay home?

This is utter crap.

I'm not hearing a peep out of anybody about this and I hang out with "hillbillies and rednecks" as a rule.

Even people who despise Ehrlich like Steele.

I fully intend to vote for Steele...but not Ehrlich.

This peckerwood is probably basing his "belief" on the "strange disappearance" of all Mfumes campaign signs out here.

We don't 'hate blacks'.
We hate ~scum~.

His reference to the "KKK meetings" is hilarious.
5 or 6 pitiful, deluded schmucks show up and that's a "Klan rally".
[and I'll bet money that the KKK-ers are all "old time" Dems under those sheets]

Steele doesn't have to worry about western MD Republicans but he better wonder about the western MD -Dems-.
They *are* racists.

But he added that the World Knights of the Ku Klux Klan is not based in nearby Sharpsburg by accident...

Another RAT voting bloc...

This is stupid.

We need Steele.

I consider him our #1 priority.

No quotes from a single person, even anonymous, who actually says they WON'T vote for Steele. Just people worried about OTHER people not doing so.

The "Deukmejian effect".

Could be a factor in Tennessee as well, going the other way.

Oh, and don't be afraid.

Steele WON the Lt. Governor's race with Erlich. So apparently the GOP was able to get enough of it's voters out to vote for a ticket with an African-American on it.

If anything, this might be some local GOP guys thinking to shame people into voting for Steele to prove they are not racists.

I just drove all over Frederick county and saw Steele signs everywhere. NO Cardin or O'Malley signs anywhere.

I was back visiting the Eastern Shore in September, I was born there and my family is all there. I saw tons of Steele and Erlich signs in yards along the roads (and I went plenty of places many miles off Rt. 50) I don't think that this will be as big a factor as the author would like it to be.

As for the western part of the state, I couldn't say.
