How do you have a nuclear fizzle?

You have to bring everything together exactly right to get an optimum explosion. See here

If you don't get it right, you get a chain reaction, but the premature explosion rips everything apart before the chain reaction has a chance to go to completion

Actually, that's my point. If it doesn't come together precisely, it doesn't go critical, therefore no boom.
