WASHINGTON - Hollywood may have to tone down its portrayal of the militarys screaming, in-your-face boot camp drill sergeant. In todays Army, shouting is out and a calmer approach to molding young minds is in, says the head of Pentagon personnel. The Army says it has reduced by nearly 7 percent the number of recruits who wash out in the first six to 12 months of military life.

"Pretty please, drop and give me 20!"
Good grief!! We're at freakin' WAR for crying out loud!!
The wussification of America continues apace.
I'm sorry girls, you didn't want to get up at 0500, I'll come back at 0900 to see if you are all ready for todays training. I am just a graduate of the soft spoken D.I. course so I hope I didn't wake you.
I would comment but I'm speechless...
It is bad enough for Drill Sergeants to make soldiers out of civilians in 90 days, they have to be PC too! Jeez!

OMG, the military has become effeminate. It's turning to giving warm fuzzies to every little snotnose picker.
"Yes, Mr Sergeant"
Doogle
Our military is the one institution in which the liberals haven't had their way. We can't let that change.
Proof that the world is quickly coming to an end.
Reminds me when I did basic training...they made a guy who had screwed up put a cloth laundry bag on his head, climb a pole, and bark like a dog while the rest of us were running laps and getting screamed at. Most of us were strangely horrified in fear while at the same time doubled over in laughter.
I read about this the other day, stm. I agree with your comments. :)
Here's the links to two other threads on this topic with many good comments too.

I went through Signal Corps basic at Camp Gordon, GA in 1951. I was amazed at the soft-spoken treatment we got from the NCOs, most of whom seemed to be reserves called up for active duty. It was only a six week cycle. One sergeant, though, looked us over one morning and said: "I see why all of you are in the Signal Corps. I don't see a man here who could make it in the Infantry!"

Tailhook? I was in the Navy during the Clinton years and all I heard was how PC it had become.
I have to draw the line at DIs kissing the recruits. GYSGT Stowe would have had a heart attack if he saw today's US military.
