Attorney David Lane said that on June 16, Steve Howards was walking his 7-year-old son to a piano practice, when he saw Cheney surrounded by a group of people in an outdoor mall area, shaking hands and posing for pictures with several people.
According to the lawsuit filed at U.S. District Court in Denver, Howards and his son walked to about two-to-three feet from where Cheney was standing, and said to the vice president, "I think your policies in Iraq are reprehensible," or words to that effect, then walked on.
Ten minutes later, according to Howards' lawsuit, he and his son were walking back through the same area, when they were approached by Secret Service agent Virgil D. "Gus" Reichle Jr., who asked Howards if he had "assaulted" the vice president. Howards denied doing so, but was nonetheless placed in handcuffs and taken to the Eagle County Jail.

Or, if that doesn't work, try this --

I can include the entire article here, in a subsequent post, if it's okay. I would like to, but I didn't know the "status" of quoting the Rocky Mountain News in full. This is a bare minimum "snipped" portion.
I was commenting on this article (from another source) when the article disappeared from Free Republic. So, I searched it out, found the article in a mainstream Colorado paper (and it did happen in Colorado, apparently) and wanted to have it for the record here, and for people to follow-up with comments and to have it for the future to see how this case "progresses".

I'm not sure why the "link" didn't show up as "active" --

If the man did as he claimed and got pinched for it then that's over the line.
The lesson here is that if you want to exercise your First Amendment rights in a confrontational manner, do so and MOVE ON. The only reason the guy got arrested is that he came back again - for legitimate reasons, sure, but how is the Secret Service supposed to know that?
I doubt that is all he said to Cheney. If the USSS could deal with Clintons, they caould handle a leftist making comments..
Short piano lesson.
Yeah, but my guess is that he did more than he said he did. I bet he deserved to get pinched.
There was a thread on this subject that was pulled about a half hour ago.
"The lawsuit filed today alleges that Howards was arrested in retaliation for having exercised his First Amendment right of free speech, and that his arrest violated his Fourth Amendment protection against unlawful seizure."
Rubbish. He's a troublemaker and he was looking for trouble. He got what he wanted. He's a sociopath.
Gee, I just posted this from the esteemed journal "The Progressive"...
No one wanted to consider that a Secret Service agent could have been overzealous in the performance of his duties or that Constitutional rights (even those of left-winger) could have been violated.
Rather, easier to call me a troll and a newbie, discredit the article based simply on the source (a left-wing rag), and have the post pulled.
He's a lawyer, and it's quite possible he was at the mall to shop for a lawsuit.
Somehow I think the F bomb and a general getting-in-Cheney's-face may have been part of it.....
Ten minutes later...he and his son were walking back..
Pretty short piano practice.
The only thing wrong is that the Secret Service waited until he came BACK. They should have arrested him the first time.
I thought they were going to say Cheney shot them in the face...
Minute Waltz on a baby grand.
Is there any proof that what this guy claims actually happened? Frankly, I find it difficult to believe that any old schmoe could just walk up to the Vice President.

Arresting people for speech was wrong then, and wrong now.
