This "unemployed youths of North African origin" garbage is not fooling anyone any more.

French Interior Minister says 2,500 police have been wounded this year from muslim uprisings, about 14 French officers per day. They now have "no-go" zones, which means they've essentially ceded control over French territory to an enemy force. (Imagine what the US public would say if 14 US police officers per day were being violently attacked, and we stopped controlling parts of our cities to anti-US gangs?)

We know that France has consistently opposed all US military actions in the Mid East, most especially in Iraq. They were cozy with Hussein and remain so with Iran. They actively oppose whatever Israel does. I can not think of a Western power that has bent further backwards against radical islamic advances. Yet France finds themselves in this situation.

I wonder: for those who don't believe that radical islam has declared war against the West, and that it must be confronted militarily, how do they explain what's happening in France, and what would they suggest be done?

France is the world's "prison b*tch". No matter what others do to them, they just lay back and let it happen.

But what's scary is that it's not just France. Britain now must notify Muslim leaders in their country before they raid the home of a suspected terrorist.

These people seem to be doing what they can to weaken themselves - it's just so frighteningly similar to what happened in WWII. Here, Europe has the perfect opportunity to stop this in its tracks. Will there be people angry at the west? Will there be innocent lives lost? Absolutely. But as WWII taught us, it's better to stop an aggressor before they become too powerful. In the crusade to avoid war at all cost, we ended up sacrificing 60 million lives.

Let's just hope Europe wakes up before it's too late.

If French wants the Muslim people to become productive members of their society they have to change their ideas of french society. 1) they will have to allow open religion on the streets burkas and head scarfs and praying, 2) allow those "foreign" rioters more access to jobs and 3") tolerate and condone others ideas on social norms and values within the greater French society. Since these are opposite to good French taste, secularism, language, social morals, ethnocentrism and class structure I do not see this this problem going away.

Looks like he insurgents are starting a civil war --- French out of France now!

We have many places in the U.S. that are similar but for different reasons. There is a place in Inkster MI called "Little Saigon" that the police will not go into. It is a haven for drugs, crime, etc. There are places in Detroit MI that are that way as well. The police have it rough everywhere in or near large cities. They really earn their pay every day.
