this site is hip with the kids?
I know it is big with the college kids and it would be a good deal at $1.65 million...but not $1.65 billion. It is just a brand name...and brand names come and go and with them goes your money.

I wonder if the internet providers are blocking this site and not You Tube?

It's their site, and they can do what they want with it
That is certainly true...but don't you question the wisdom of blocking political content?

Is it just me or does the narrator in the video sound like Charlie Rangel?

That would be a little too deep for most.
I may be wrong, but I think Zucker is the narrator. Good to have this ex-lib on board.

"Does it strike anybody as being stupid to purchase a website that does nothing more than let ANYBODY post videos?"
This is an old trick in the bag of those who are looking to limit competition - buy out the troublesome rival and shut it down.
John D. Rockefeller the First used a similar tactic in eliminating his competitors in the early days of petroleum production, until the anti-trust legislation kicked in.
John D.'s other tactic was to undersell the competitor by offering prices so low the rival in that market went broke trying to match his prices, but when the cost is already essentially zero, that would not have worked with YouTube.

Like a "ZOT"?
Works for me. Not talking about wisdom here, just freedom. It's OK with me for any American to have a point of view and to express it, and equally OK if I disagree with them, sometimes vociferously.
Free country and all that.

If you don't use Google, how do you manage to find any info on the Web? All this stuff may be true about Google, but it is far superior to anything else I am aware of: I haven't used anything else almost since its inception, and I read about it in a computer mag when it was still quite new. Prior to that I used Alta Vista for a few years;;;;no comparison, even that long ago. I think I am going to check out AV right now and see if its changed...

I see your point. Thanks for your insight.
I guess that I don't see Google and YouTube as being direct competitors, but I suppose that the case could be made that YouTube was beginning to suck up a lot of oxygen on the www. Probably, the new home screen for a lot of tweenty somethings?
I see Google as being more practical for business purposes and used to make it my home screen when I worked for others. I would think those same overlords would have a problem if I made YouTube my homescreen.

I never saw that video. The alternate link at Malkin's site never worked. Anyone got a better one?

Google stock rose enough to cover the purchase cost.
I wonder how the stock price will look after a writeoff of better than a billion dollars...or will they just leave it on the books as Goodwill just like the now forgotten Enron.
