I assume you saw the Path to 9/11. There is a crucial scene that I haven't seen discussed on FreeRepublic. Maybe because Clinton can't be blamed.

We know 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudis. It was supposed to be 16 of 20.

The scene involved a Saudi attempting to enter the US in Florida. A naturalized Cuban American customs officer rejects his entry into the US. (This caused United 93 to be a man short and possibly saved the Capitol when the heroes attempted to take back the plane).

Another hero is the Cuban American officer who is told in the movie by his colleague that he will get into trouble "because we are supposed to be lenient with Saudis" (near exact quote).

This story is absolutely true. I witnessed the actual customs officer when he was interviewed by Joe Scarborough on his show some time ago. He said there the same thing. They had instructions to treat Saudis deferentially. He was warned his career could be hurt by rejecting that Saudi (terrorist) from the US. The man is a real American hero. Not owned by the Saudis.

Wish we could say that of others.

The first time Bush held hands with the Saudi pric.. it jarred me but I allowed myself to rationalize it away.

The second time I became convinced.

And now Woodward's book- I understand- explains that Bush pretended to be pro Israel with Saudi acquiescence for election purposes (I guess they learned from the experience of Bush I).

There isn't a Bush Mideast policy that you can not explain if you look at it through Saudi interests.

I think you are right. His holding hands with the Saudi official down at the ranch was certainly bizarre. I cannot remember any President in my lifetime who has held hands with a grown man. It says, "I am the lesser of the two." I think the closeness between the Bush family and the Saudis is wrong. But I also think that Bush is trying to secure the oil for future generations. This does not excuse his behavior, however. There is something incredibly weird going on with our President...also that remark about Putin, seeing into his eyes and trusting him. Is our President an emotional child?

Remember who was Condi's mentor: Brent Scowcroft. There is no greater Saudi stooge in the Bush Family circle than Scowcroft.
